Isn't this like the 5th or 6th time this happened to him in '94? Ricky Rudd in 1988 driving the #26 Quaker State Buick blew up more than a dozen times. That has to be the modern day record for a top 15 team. 13. Labonte's car spent nearly 300 laps in the garage area being repaired. With about 80 laps to go, Labonte got his payback as he spun Speed out with 80 laps left. Speed spun backwards into the inside wall, but no caution came out. No sooner had he done that, Labonte brought his car back to the garage and parked it for the evening. Several cars were involved in multiple incidents. Mike Wallace was involved in three accidents throughout the night, first getting spun out by Kyle Petty early in the race and hitting the frontstretch wall, then getting involved in a tangle up on the frontstretch again later in the race, and finally spinning out on his own off of turn 2 and getting clipped by Jeremy Mayfield. John Andretti was involved in mutliple accidents in this race, first spinning out and backing it into the wall early in the race, forcing him to spend more than 80 laps behind the wall. He later smacked the wall trying to avoid a multi-car incident on the frontstretch, causing him to spend 100+ more laps behind the wall. Joe Nemechek briefly led this race due to pit strategy, but tangled with Kyle Petty and spun him out going into turn 1. Nemechek's car wasn't seriously damaged, but he lost the lead. He still managed to hang onto a top 10 spot until he blew a tire and smacked the turn 3 wall, managing to not bring out a caution in the process. Jeff Gordon had a strong car in this race but his bad run of luck at Bristol early in his career continued when his car got loose coming off the second corner. He got off the gas and was promptly hit in the rear by Geoff Bodine, causing him to spin out and back into the inside wall on the backstretch heavily, ending his night. Initially NASCAR was going to penalize Bodine by sending him to the tail end of the field for rough driving, but after further review they rescinded the penalty. 14. Burton had strong cars at several points during the '94 season, but bad luck ended up curtailing the overwhelming majority of those runs. Bobby Hamilton and Bobby Labonte were involved in a pretty hard crash on the frontstretch on lap 300. Hamilton hit the wall coming off the fourth corner and clipped Labonte, causing the Maxwell House Pontiac, who was already 40 laps down, into the outside wall as well. Hamilton's right rear tire left his car in the crash and rolled around the track all the way up to about turn 3, making nearly a full lap on its' own. 15. Then he had to be a dick and go out and intentionally wreck Speed. 16. BON GORDON posted: 11.16.2013 - 1:43 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Well it's not like Labonte did things like that often. Doesn't make it right but these are people, not machines. I'm surprised Terry didn't kick Earnhardt's butt after the 1999 incident at Bristol. Cooler heads usually prevailed. That's why Terry Labonte is the "Iceman." 17. Now he could be the slowest car at the track every week in practice, qualifying and the race, but as long as he has a charter, even if 80 cars show up at the track, he gets to race every week. 20. Bramblegrunt posted: 10.19.2016 - 7:16 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) This became the 2nd time that Geoffrey Bodine and Jeff Gordon would get into contact during a race and NASCAR would intervene and penalize one for aggressive driving only to later rescind the penalty. The role was reversed in the fall Dover race when Gordon clipped Bodine in turn 2. After review just like this time, NASCAR decided it was merely incidental And to step out and give my opinion, while as a fan it sucks to see any favorite driver go home, thats part of the game, the charter system really doesn't make you qualify FOR the race. If you can't put up a time worthy of racing, you shouldn't be racing, you shouldn't be given a free ride with a charter. Its also stagnated the field, almost no new teams are getting into the sport and the big teams are just getting bigger knocking the small teams out forever. But money talks loudest and sponsors don't want to see their cars going home. 21.
