Coming out of turn four, his right front tire blew out, sending him hard into the outside wall. His car then riccocheted back into the inside wall. The car caught on fire briefly, but quickly extinguished. Burton was uninjured. 3. Jeff Burton blew a tire coming off of turn four, plowed into the wall and came down the track hitting the inside wall a ton. With only a few laps to go, Mark Martin had the same thing happen at the same spot and was almost knocked out of his seat from the blow. Fortunately, both drivers were not injured. 4. mcmurrayfan posted: 06.30.2006 - 4:49 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Only Cup start for Tim Fedewa. 5. I'm sure he was the only guy in the field who didn't want the race to go back to green. 6. It did not look like he had any brakes the way the car came down into the inside wall. The car caught fire too. Also, Mark Martin slammed the wall really hard. They used to say you always crash hard at Dover. 11. August posted: 10.14.2011 - 9:55 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) 1st race my father and I went to. Michael Waltrip had a vicious impact with the inside wall on the frontstretch on lap 33 after contact with Jimmy Spencer. He later rejoined the race. Sterling Marlin lost control of his car on lap 74 coming off turn 2 and spun into the inside wall. He too would later rejoin the race. Greg Sacks had a heavy crash in turn 3 on lap 119 after a blown right front tire. John Andretti and Hut Stricklin tangled and crashed heavily in turn 3 on lap 135. Both cars were pretty badly damaged, but both would return to the race. As aformentioned, Jeff Burton had a vicious, fiery crash on lap 190 while leading the race when he blew a tire coming off turn 4 and slammed the outside and inside wall. Mike Wallace spun on the frontstretch on lap 214 and backed his car into the outside wall. Loy Allen just barely clipped the inside wall trying to avoid his car. Joe Nemechek was the next to crash, looping his car around on his own and slamming the outside wall head on in turn 2 on lap 226, spinning back down the track into the inside wall. Next to crash was Ward Burton, who looped his car in turn 4 on lap 234, and also hit the wall head on. Another incident happened on lap 292 when Derrike Cope spun on the frontstretch and Dale Jarrett made contact with him. Things got even worse for Jarrett when he blew a right front tire entering turn 3, slammed the outside wall, went through the grass on the apron and spun to a stop. 15. 18fan posted: 12.06.2012 - 8:10 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Martin had the race in hand with about a 7 second lead late when he was trying to lap Ricky Rudd on the outside and at that moment Rudd lost a right front tire, which damaged Mark's left front. He then crashed out of the race when he lost a right front tire coming to 5 to go. They would've restarted the race for a 1 lap shootout but Rick Mast's car stalled on the backstretch and the race finished under caution. 16. Ben posted: 06.05.2015 - 7:52 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) I hope Rusty bought Rick Mast a beer after the race. If that race had restarted, he would have either run out of gas or blown a tire due to the left rear that was going down. 17. Jeff Burton was fine but did stay an extended stay in the infield care center with knee pain. Mark Martin actually got out of his car surveyed the damage and ran back into his car to try to drive it off and finish, the damage was extensive but the car started, unfortunately the rear tires got no grip on the grass and with so few laps to go, he retired from the race 21. He described the #8 Raybestos Brakes Ford as being crushed in "by about two feet" on both sides after those hard hits. 23.
