He was signed to drive the full 1995 season in the #32 car but DNQ'd for the first two races and got fired. 2. The "High Plains Drifter" would rejoin the Cup guys briefly however for some of the exhibition races in Japan. 7. 18fan posted: 01.03.2011 - 4:13 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Earnhardt's first race as a seven time champion ends with an early engine failure. 8. Had he had some breaks during the year he might have been in contention. * Only time in the 90's has a title been already clinched with races to spare, I know its been done before but Earnhardt's 1994 run was the only to be clinched with two races left. 9. Jeff Gordon locked up the title in 1998 early and I believe Dale Jarrett did the same in 1999. I will need to check on 1999 though. 11. He stated in the mid race interview that they were had an "experimental" engine since they already wrapped up the title. Obviously if it was, the experiment was a failure 14. Seemed to me they really liked each other at this time at least. At the All Star race they were beside each other already talking so they interviewed them both and they were laughing and joking with each other. At Charlotte when Jeff Gordon got his first career win, Earnhardt drove up beside him and was big time enthusiastically pumping his fist out the window and I'd never seen Earnhardt react to a win by anybody like that outside of Dale Jr. And here when they are red flagged to fix the wall they interview Jeff Gordon and he is standing beside Earnhardts car talking to him when they do it. Rainbow nation and Earnhardt nation together as one. 17. I think it's called "unrivaled" it's about the Gordon vs Earnhardt rivalry when Gordon came to cup, and how they really got along behind the scenes. It's pretty good. 18. Jimnsimforever posted: 02.26.2019 - 12:34 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) I'll have to check it out. My view is biased from coming into the sport at a time when Earnhardt and Gordon fans didn't like the other driver at all at the very least. Just surprised going back and watching the races from back before I started watching that it seemed almost as if Earnhardt took Gordon under his wing a little the first couple years he was in Cup. 19.
