Hensley had spun into the wall off of turn 4 and was sliding down the track when he got absolutely slammed in the back by Sacks, sending Hensley's car onto it's nose and nearly completely over. Both driver's got out uninjured. 4. dUDE gUY posted: 08.06.2008 - 12:16 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Intersting stat of the day: This was Jeff Gordon's first win, top 5, top 10, and pole at this track. 5. He didn't have any crash damage or mechanical problem and still finished over 50 laps down. 13. Success in a 100 mile race with equal cars does not carry over to a 500 mile race with cars prepared by different crews with different budgets. He would have been better off running some ARCA and Busch races for a couple of years before tackling Winston Cup full time. Definitely the Richard Petty of sprint car racing, though. Yes, a hard hit for Greg Sacks, and more undue tough luck for Rick Mast. Rick should have won 5 or 6 races, but rarely had the car to do it. When he did, he always had an engine or mechanical problem, a bad pit stop, or was caught in a crash. 15. 83andJoe posted: 06.24.2013 - 11:58 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) #90 crew chief: Freddy Fryar 16. 83andJoe posted: 06.25.2013 - 12:01 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) #41 crew chief: Waddell Wilson 17. 83andJoe posted: 06.25.2013 - 12:02 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) #26 crew chief: Rick Ren 18. wrank fakefield posted: 07.27.2014 - 6:39 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) the first of 47 wins for Jeff Gordon over a 5 year period. 19. Texaco shot footage of the Robert Yates Racing #28 Texaco/Havoline Ford team during this race weekend for use in a commercial they aired later in the summer. 24. The Rainbow Warriors gave all their cars "Killer B" names and "Blacker" got its name from the fact the team had tested the new car in a black primary paint scheme (with a skull and cross bones on the hood) before giving it its proper rainbow DuPont scheme. Gordon won with the car on debut and would go on to win 12 times in the potent Chevrolet between 1995 and 1998. 25. Based on hearing Phil Parsons interview after the Busch race and seeing the DNQ list, I don't think they attempted to race here. 26.
