Steve Grissom entered this race 5th in Winston Cup points, but because
the #29 Diamond Ridge car was about 30th in points from 1994, he failed
to qualify.

The 24 was also involved in the first caution, along with the 87 and 98.
Nemechek ran into the back of Gordon while trying to avoid Mayfield,
which led to Gordon's fuel pump issues that took him out of the race.

During the TBS broadcast, a then new safety feature was mentioned called
the HANS Device, which obviously has become a revolutionary part of
safety history. Kyle Petty had worn it for the first three races of the
1995 season and to my knowledge, that was the first time it was shown on
a live Nascar race.

Wasn't this race very cold? I remember a headline in *I think* Winston
Cup Scene like "The Iceman Ices 'Em in Cold Richmond" or something like
that.

Dick Trickle finishes 12th and moves into the top-10 in points as
result. This would be the only time all season he was that high in the

The commentators were Ken Squier, Ernie Irvan and Chuck Bown. The pit
road reporters were Dr. Dick Berggren, Steve Byrnes and Randy Pemberton.
And in the STP pit communication center was Rick Benjamin.
