But a spin in three and four sent Wallace and Musgrave into different directions. Wallace went low and Musgrave went high. And the path the Musgrave took all but doomed his chances of getting what should have been his only career Winston Cup win. 5. Steve Kinser was in the car until Bristol, where he DNQ. I don't know if Steve or Hut was the driver at North Wilkesboro. 6. I remember NASCAR not knowing if it was dry enough to restart, so they asked Earnhardt to go out and do some hot laps (at the time, he was 20 laps down as a result of a lap 5 crash with Terry Labonte and Morgan Shepherd). Earnhardt gave the ok to restart. It was already 4 or 5 pm by this point, though. 7. The NFL Draft was a big hang up with ESPN and NASCAR broadcasts at this point in the season for several years. Also, I believe this was the race in which Bill Ingle, Ricky Rudd's crew chief at the time, punched Ted Musgrave in the jaw after the race because he spun Rudd out earlier. Most of my memories of Bill Ingle were not good, including this one. 8. Anonymous posted: 02.23.2007 - 1:16 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Kinser failed to qualify the 26 car at Wilkesboro, Steve. 9. Bob Jenkins sounded like he was rushed and didn't know what to do when the broadcast first started so it must have been a last minute decision like Thomas said. 10. biffle16 posted: 05.17.2007 - 1:44 am Rate this comment: (1) (0) Elton Sawyer's Cup debut. :) 11. I think Terry got pinched and got some wheels off the ground 12. jeff posted: 04.19.2008 - 12:37 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Yeah, Terry climbed completely over Shepherd's car while it and Earnhardt's were pinned against the wall off of turn 4. 13. mew posted: 07.01.2008 - 7:56 pm Rate this comment: (0) (1) Too bad rusty won a race sponsored by a underwear company..... 14. He had the best car at the end (and as good in the beginning) but poor pit strategy put him a lap down at one point. 15. stricklinfan82@aol.com posted: 04.26.2009 - 11:19 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) The original plan was for ESPN to air the race in its entirety on a tape-delayed basis later that afternoon, after their coverage of the NFL Draft. When the start of the race got pushed back a few hours by rain, ESPN changed the plan to join the race live and in progress after the coverage of the draft. When the Earnhardt-Labonte wreck happened in the opening laps, the plan changed again and ESPN started the broadcast with tape-delayed coverage of the first few laps. After showing the crash they skipped ahead to pick up the coverage live on lap 91. Another long rain delay short of halfway pushed the race towards darkness. On lap 346 the teams were given a 10 laps to go warning, and the checkered flag fell 10 laps later. 16. myself posted: 08.17.2009 - 12:54 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) Anyone remember the "Rusty's going back in time" commercials? 17. Rusty actually won the Bud Shootout that year with a special paint job about them. 21. Since Musgrave finished in the top 5 he had to go to the gas pumps, and when he did Ingle was there waiting for him and popped him on the side of his head. Ingle was fined $250 for the incident 22. b4il3y posted: 09.07.2013 - 2:21 am Rate this comment: (1) (1) Ingle was a bum anyway. This race also ended the new Monte Carlo's 7 race win streak to start the season (10 if you count the Clash and the Twin 125's). 25. They weren't running a full schedule in 1995 but still failed to qualify for four straight attempts over the prior five races leading into this one. 26. Morgan said "I had just passed Terry on the front straightaway and we didn't touch at all. We came off 1 and he got in the back of me. I would've been ok if he had lifted but he just kept pushing and pushing me until it turned me straight in the wall. Luckily he got caught up in it too." He was upset his car was torn up but took solace in Terry's car being torn up too, lol. Then they interviewed Terry and he agreed and said the entire thing was his fault and he should've backed out of the throttle but didn't. The thing is if he did back out, Morgan may have been ok, but Dale would've run right over him cause he wouldn't have expected it and couldn't have realized Terry was in the back of Morgan. I think by looking at it, it was just a weird racing accident where Terry decided to go to the outside right after Dale did and didn't realize Dale's nose was already outside of him. Earnhardt had just passed eventual race winner Rusty Wallace on the outside too. That shows how good his car was early. If you're an Earnhardt fan and want to look for things that happened that cost him title 8 this year, this is one where he lost way more points than he lost to Gordon by at the end. 27.
