He broke the previous record held by...Terry Labonte, who won from 23rd in 1989. 3. He did attempt a race in 1998 in Tim Beverley's #35 Tabasco Pontiac, but failed to qualify. 5. RaceFanX posted: 01.21.2011 - 5:39 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) That's ironic given Spencer drove the #27 the year before to two victories. Horton was only in the bright orange-and-white Hooters Ford on this day before its normal driver Elton Sawyer was off competing in the previous day's Busch race at Myrtle Beach Speedway where he finished 10th. 9. His real name is Duane and he was born in Wisconsin... 10. He would always remind everyone about it. 16. Ed posted: 12.30.2013 - 1:55 pm Rate this comment: (0) (8) Yeah, Buddy Baker was rather annoying like that 17. Buddy had a soft spot for Jeff because I believe Gordon learned how to drive a stock car at the Baker driving school. Likely why he made his Nascar debut in 1990 in a Busch Series race at Rockingham. Ernie Irvan on the other hand took a jab at Gordon by saying....that's kind of hard to do with a jerico. Meaning Gordon had a jerico transmission in his car so you didn't have to worry about using the clutch, so how in the world did he just do that. Mike Joy quickly shut him up and talked over him by saying HEY!!!!!(Shut up Ernie, we were instructed to keep pumping this guy up, he's the chosen one, who cares if you think you should've won the Brickyard instead of him) we need to give Labonte credit for not running over him. 19.
