After the race was over, Michael hit Lake's car on pit road and then un-latched his window net and punched him. Mikey said he wasn't wearing any gloves so he stung his knuckles. Funny quote by him: "I talked to Lake that night and we got things straightned out, but then the next year NASCAR called me and fined me 10 grand." 2. Michael Waltrip, a massive man, SUCKER PUNCHED Lake Speed, a tiny man, while Lake was still strapped in his car & unable to defend himself. Don't fall into the "Michael Waltrip Nice Guy" trap! Heck, just this week he attempted to cheat & Daytona! HE'S A LOSER! 6. SK posted: 12.07.2007 - 7:05 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) John Andretti's first career top-5 finish. 7. He is a two faced jerk and he proved it in this race and many times in his career! 8. Ryan posted: 01.08.2009 - 7:20 pm Rate this comment: (2) (3) Mikey is a bitch... nuff said 9. Rudd had one of the fastest cars in the field when he got turned by Hut Stricklin going into turn 1. Trickle also had a fast car. 11. 18fan posted: 01.31.2010 - 11:37 pm Rate this comment: (2) (2) Michael Waltrip also started the incident with Robby Gordon at New Hampshire in 2005, wrecking Robby under caution. As Robby said, "The caution was out and he wrecked me, and he's a piece of shit." 12. He ignored it and had his score card pulled after lap 197. He was also fined $5,000. 16. When Jeff Hammond and Greg Sacks can't qualify for the Daytona 500 together, your team sucks balls as most Pontiac's did at the time, hence only two teams in the series drove them in 1995, Brooks/Sabates and Petty Enterprises. 17. Bad Booking posted: 12.05.2016 - 9:30 pm Rate this comment: (0) (1) Chuck Bown's spin, Mike Wallace slamming the wall, and the spin after the restart 2/3rds of the way through the event (never mind the fact Earnhardt plowed the wall down half a lap later). What do all these have in common? No doubt would have been called cautions in today's NASCAR, but weren't called here. 20. Dodge posted: 03.30.2017 - 9:51 am Rate this comment: (1) (0) The one thing I don't think is accurate, the claim that NASCAR waited 1 year to fine Waltrip for his suckerpunch of Lake Speed. More than likely, it was a couple days later, not a year later. 21. nascarman posted: 03.30.2017 - 11:40 am Rate this comment: (1) (0) Michael was fined $10,000 on Monday right after the race. Geoff Bodine was also fined $5,000 for ignoring a black flag. Bodine hit the wall with six laps to go and his car was smoking; he was blacked flag but with the amount of laps left didn't come to the pits. 22. Jimnsimforever posted: 03.05.2019 - 5:16 am Rate this comment: (1) (1) Ok, my opinion of Michael Waltrip has now changed too. He's a piece of garbage. I had no clue of either of the incidents but he sure is a big man in back to back years. Two men that are much older (Dave Marcis and Lake Speed) 53 and 47 to Michael's 31 and 32 years old and much smaller are both in their cars and strapped in, completely defenseless and good ole Mikey comes up and blasts them both in the face. Once and you can write it off and think well, anger got the best of him and maybe he apologized, but twice you're trash. How many more times has Michael selectively gone after old men strapped in their cars, or men much smaller than him to take out his anger, about only getting the chance to stay in Cup so long until he finally wins some plate races years later because of who his bro was, out on? 23.
