John Andretti's spotter had a small camera mounted on top of his hat so you got to see some racing from the spotters standpoint. 2. The TNN broadcast accidentally got someone swearing a 'real bad word' on live tv-it was either Jeff Burton or Bobby Labonte who got caught up in an accident involving Geoff Bodine, but unlike today where people would constantly apologize for catching that, the announcers laughed and simply said "As you can hear, things sometimes get heated on the track" Chuck Bown's 32 car had a tiny sponsor of someone proposing to someone in the garage area. She said yes. 7. RaceFanX posted: 12.18.2018 - 9:31 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Jeff Gordon's win here turned out to a very big one. The points race coming into this one was tight was Gordon trailing leader Sterling Marlin by seven points and Dale Earnhardt just 16 markers out of the lead in third. With his win here Gordon leapt past Marlin into the points lead, leaving with a 40-point lead after Marlin finished ninth while Earnhardt's finish in the back half of the field put him 92 markers off the lead. Gordon led the point standings for the rest of the year on his way to the championship. 8. Ernie Irvan, "If they show it again Buddy that car is just (unintelligible) They run some real soft rear springs and then run that rear sway bar." Buddy Baker, "You can't believe how soft that car is. When he was turning the wheel back and forth earlier that side was coming up that far." Mike Joy,"Wow". Ernie Irvan, "I was down kind of snooping at it yesterday and Ray Evernham said, Man don't be looking at my car." Mike Joy: "Did you tell him it was for tv?" Ernie Irvan: "No. I told him it was because I want to figure out why it goes so fast. Because I know that Jeff didn't all of the sudden learn how to drive." Buddy Baker then laughs. 9. Just days after the 1996 running of this race the Federal Trade Commission has charged the company with making false claims in its advertisements that suggested it could reduce wear and lengthen engine life when studies were done that showed it didn't. 10.
