Everyone thought the race would be delayed until the next day (the race from 1994-2000 was scheduled for the first Saturday in August). then at 4:15pm or so..."We're starting the race!". Luckily the race went green for 156 laps and ended just before the sun went down. The Man won and what started off as a crappy, rainy day ended as a great day. 2. Earnhardt got by him as a result, and cruised to victory. This race may also have been the first obvious case of the dreaded "Aero Push". 3. I seen several comments posted by Matt who posts DNQs for older races, and I wonder, "Is there a web site that has this info? Did he go to that race and take notes? Or does he just have a damn good memory?" Either way, thank you, Matt, for posting those. 7. I think Rusty had the better car, but Earnhardt said in victory lane that his car ran better up front. Mash_guy is right it was hard to pass because of aero push. Earnhardt drove the wheels off the car those last 30 laps. I never seen him drive like that, he was using every bit of the race track coming off the turns making sure that his car wouldn't get loose. Rusty put all kinds of pressure on him, but he couldn't do anything with him. Dale Jarrett caught Rusty at the end like it was nothing, but couldn't pass him because of aero push. 12. Hardly any cautions where you almost have to run a flawless race to win. So many time I've seen Gordon and Johnson benefit from cautions here and there to make changes to their car and have a better chance at winning. 23. 83andJoe posted: 09.16.2013 - 6:37 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) #78 owner: Jim Wilson 24. 83andJoe posted: 09.16.2013 - 6:38 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) ^ Ignore the above! This was an outstanding race. It went well past halfway before the first and only caution, with six cars still within sight of the lead. It was revealed during the broadcast of this race that the Penske team had built a chevrolet monte carlo just for wind tunnel testing, to find out where the ford was behind the chevy in aero. Wallace would be significantly faster the rest of the season. 26. As mentioned above, this was the first race the aero push was so prevalent and mentioned by drivers. 28. James W. You guys are right in that he never won at Texas, Loudon, Fontana, and Homestead. Also, add Las Vegas to that list. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
