I remember Ted Musgrave was very unhappy with rookie Robert Pressley after a crash on the backstretch. He said to ESPN's Bill Weber, "Well, we dropped a cylinder so we were running on 7 cylinders for a while, and I figured I'd stay in the high groove, stay out of everybody's way, and I just got taken out by the 33 car, I went and asked him, I said, 'What was wrong?' and he said, 'I ran out of brakes.' Well, if you're out of brakes, you shouldn't be on the racetrack, you know, so...rookies!" 3. nascarman posted: 06.01.2006 - 10:46 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) The back of Musgrave's car got on the wall protecting pit road from the race track. 4. I remember sitting in the fronstretch stands and it felt like an earthquake when Earnhardt took the lead from Wallace with nine lapes to go. This was the only points win I ever saw Earnhardt get live. 5. Brad posted: 01.07.2008 - 10:06 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) My very first race I ever attented! I was 7 years old. My dad and I had tickets for the truck race but it got rained out. So I begged my dad to get tickets for the Cup race. So he did and we haven't missed a Martinsville race since! :-) 6. rustyfan posted: 05.09.2008 - 11:58 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) I remember Ward Burton spun Rusty out in this one,but he came back and almost held on for the win. 7. Prior to this race and 6 races to go he was 309 points down. 8. 83andJoe posted: 09.15.2013 - 8:48 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) For some reason Mike Beam as the crew chief is doubled on Bill Elliott's yearly results page for this race. 9. It added some time to the stops but more importantly created a few lug nut controversies that would pop up before the season ended. 11. awesomebillfan9 posted: 12.27.2016 - 3:31 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Most laps Steve Grissom ever led in a Cup race. 12. Turned out it wasnt broken and he was able to soldier on to the finish, even passing Wallace in the last 2 laps for 2nd after Earnhardt dispatched of him with 9 to go. Bill Weber then said to him "2 lug nuts on your left rear tire". Terry looked up and said "Oh really? Thats good, thats better than 1!" Bobby Labonte also had heartbreak in the closing laps, running 4th he had a tire go down with 7 to go and had to nurse it home and ended up finishing 14th 13. Good things his days of driving the Raybestos brakes car were already several years behind him at this point. 15. It turned out to be the Intimidator's penultimate short track win, he'd get his last at Bristol in 1999 and like this race he'd have to best Terry Labonte to get it. 16.
