The car ran dry before reaching the pits and Jarrett's crew had to spray ether into the manifold opening to refire the engine. This cost Jarrett several positions and a chance at his first Darlington win. 4. Too bad Number 24 won. 8. Ken Schrader lost it on his own on lap 20 and spun down the backstretch. Behind him, Sterling Marlin also spun and Bobby Hillin hit the turn 4 wall. Schrader drove away only to be hit by Michael Waltrip in turn 3, whose car got serious air as he climbed over the side of the #25. Bobby Labonte managed to stay out long enough during a round of green flag pit stops that he caught the rest of the field when Geoff Bodine and John Andretti tangled on the backstretch and Andretti hit the inside wall heavily. Most of the cars who stayed out to get back on the lead lap during that caution made up the ground lost when Labonte got into the back of Jimmy Spencer on the frontstretch, turning him into the wall and causing the caution to come out for debris. Derrike Cope brought out the fifth caution when he blew his engine and spun in his oil in turn 4. They only went green for a few laps after that for a heavy crash off of turn 4. Ricky Rudd got into the back of Ernie Irvan and turned him around. Pole sitter Ward Burton lost control of his car trying to avoid the spinning Texaco/Havoline Ford and slammed the inside wall head on. Joe Nemechek also spun trying to avoid the accident, but was able to save the Burger King Chevy from the concrete. Jimmy Spencer brought out another caution flag when he slammed the turn 1 wall and came to a stop in between turns 1 and 2. Next to find trouble was Robert Pressley, who lost control when his engine failed while leading the race and spun into the turn 3 wall. Pressley tried to drive his car away, but his car caught fire and he spun his car to a stop on the frontstretch. The crashfest continued when Wally Dallenbach slammed the turn 3 wall after a right front tire failed on his car. The final two cautions came out for Ernie Irvan blowing a tire and smacking the wall, and for Nemechek losing control while underneath Dave Marcis and spinning into the turn 2 wall. 13. 18fan posted: 01.05.2013 - 3:32 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Jarrett lost the race when he hit the wall coming off turn 4 while leading Gordon. He couldn't have made it on fuel anyway, but he lost the lead when he hit the wall and then Dale and Jeff ran about a whole lap side by side before Gordon got by for the lead and eventually the win. 14. 83andJoe posted: 03.04.2013 - 11:34 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) #30 status: Out of Gas 15. He had ran out of gas with two to go, but Gordon took the white flag while Jarrett's car was getting gas. Jarrett would have finished 8th but was penalized a lap for getting assistance from a crew other than his own after the white flag. 16. menardfan15 posted: 07.26.2013 - 6:19 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Hey I thought active motorsports closed down end of 1995? I guess when 3 guys work together calling races for years like Bob, Benny and Ned its hard to stay neutral when one of the three guys son, after years of racing is in the points lead in the 5th race of the year after years of mostly decent seasons. The agony of defeat would permeate the booth after Jarrett ran out of gas which led to a 15th place finish, his worst of the year so far. 18.
