Starting with this race, Lake Speed is listed as owner of the #9 car for
three races, then Harry Melling is listed as owner again.

Anyone know the story behind this?

My first race going to. Remember the crowd going crazy when Irvan won!
Also, when Gordon had his ignition issue, the crowd roared in approval.

This race was featured on MRN's Throwback Thursday on September 22,
2016. Practice for this race was affected by Hurricane Bertha.

This was the last year Winston Cup only raced one date on this track.

Craven set a new track record with his qualifying lap.

Bobby Labonte had crashed in practice. 20 minutes later they had a
backup car on the racetrack.

Gordon's ignition box failed early, they got it fixed and Gordon
reassumed the lead. The second ignition box failed, and they mistakenly
changed the battery, dropping to 35th position, 24 laps down. They came
back in and changed to the third ignition box, and ran laps until they
could no longer gain position.

Larry Mac won for Crew Chief of the race for staying out under caution.

Irvan used Jarrett's setup from Richmond where Dale finished second but
Jarrett went in a complete 180 degree direction with his setup. It
worked out great for both as it was Yates's first one two finish.

Looks like Jarrett's old setup may have been the better one though.
Irvan took the lead at the right time, and held on to win by over 5
seconds.

Joe Nemechek ended up taking a hard shot backward into the outside wall
after contact from Ted Musgrave while racing in the back half of the
top-20 near the two-third mark of this race. TNN announcer Eli Gold
quipped Nemechek had "a Whopper of a problem" as his Burger King #87
Chevrolet impacted the wall, the damage sent Nemechek to the sidelines
in this one.

Race sponsorship note: Jiffy Lube took over the sponsorship of the race
just days after Quaker State, owner of original race sponsor Slick 50,
was blasted by the Federal Trade Commission for false advertising
regarding Slick 50 (specifically claims Slick 50 provided improved
performance and reduced wear compared to motor oil alone)
