Lake Speed's 8th place finish was his best of the year and his personal best at Pocono. Ricky Rudd finished 2nd in both Pocono races in 1996. 2. Combining that result with that with rookie Johnny Benson, Jr.'s fifth place finish in the #30 Pennzoil Pontiac meant this was the only race all year where Chevrolet's Team Monte Carlo was locked out of the top-5. 11. He went from 11th place in the standings 509 points out of first to finish 5th in the standings 379 points out of first during his run. Also in 1996, Martin did not win a race. He actually had the dominant car early in this race. He would end his 42 race winless streak at Sonoma in 1997 and ironically would win at Talladega the following Saturday setting a NASCAR 500 mile race record. So, Martin didn't win for a season and a half, but then won two races within a week. 12.
