He qualified on the outside pole, took the lead on lap 86 and held it for the next twelve laps, and finished in eighth place. This was about the only time David Blair Motorsports was anywhere near competitive in its Cup career. 2. Before then it was the McDonald's Ford that Mr. Excitement won at Daytona and Talladega with. And before that, the #27 was the #22 Maxwell House Ford driven by Sterling Marlin in 1991 and 1992. 4. myself posted: 02.19.2007 - 6:07 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Uh....Hut Stricklin drove the #27 McDonalds Ford prior to Spencer, not Marlin. 5. jeff posted: 03.28.2008 - 12:53 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Stricklin drove the #27 in 1993, Marlin drove the #22 in 1991 and 1992. The car was the same, they just changed the driver, number, and sponsorship for 1993. 6. The other was Darrell Waltrip's #17 Parts America Chevy which had a retro-Tide look. (DW ran several retro cars in 1997 as part of his 25th anniversity in racing.) 7. 18fan posted: 02.17.2010 - 12:14 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) In 1997-99, Burton seemed to have a lot of races like this. Dominate the race but have something like an adjustment, changing track conditions, or something else preventing him from wins. He might have 10 more wins if that didn't happen. 8. 18fan posted: 06.15.2010 - 8:37 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Bill Elliott's last pole as an owner/driver. 9. Never would have thought Irwin would be dead in a few years without much success. What could have been.... 16. First career Top 10, only Top 10 of the season, and only Top 10 for the 27. Final start for Lance Hooper in the 1. 17. nohbody posted: 10.19.2019 - 5:45 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Mark Martin drove most of the race with no power steering. 18. The #1 was ahead in owner points going into this race. 19. Mile501 posted: 04.18.2020 - 10:40 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) @18 - Hooper was in this race. Did you intend to post that question in the comments for the following race at Loudon? Assuming that's what you meant, my best guess is that the #1 team was out of provisionals. Teams used to be limited on the number of provisionals that they could use. As far as I can tell, the #1 had already used 7 provisionals at this point in the season and probably didn't have any more available. 20.
