This gives the lead to Virginia's own Jeff Burton, who goes on to hold of Dale Earnhardt for the win. 2. Rusty was fined by NASCAR for comments he made after the race. Rusty paid the fine in pennies, using an armored truck. 4. Along with Skinner, Dallenbach Jr, Little, Cope, and Irwin, they are the last drivers in Winston Cup history to collect LESS THAN 10K in race winnings. 8. I felt like he got a decent enough start to where Burton could catch up. Steve Park runs the 40 making him the third or so driver to run the car that year, Robby Gordon tried unsuccessfully to run the full schedule with Indycar commitments and he screwed himself out of a fulltime ride in NASCAR. Then Greg Sacks gets in the seat and then Steve Park also jumped in the seat for this race and several others as prep work for the following year. Michael Waltrip's second child was born the day before this event. 11. 18fan posted: 03.04.2015 - 1:09 am Rate this comment: (1) (0) Kenny Wallace finished 6th in both Martinsville races in 1997. Those were his only top 10s of the season 12. I know at the time, it was a channel that not very many people received and I was disappointed that I couldn't tape it on the VCR as we didn't get that channel. I don't think it was taped delayed. I do believe it was run on a Monday due to rain. 20. The fine was $5,000 and he proceeded to pay the fine with 500,000 pennies. Here's a link with a little more information. https://www.theautochannel.com/news/date/19971005/news006834.html 21. Seems like a very strict penalty for something said on the radio during the heat of the race; that happens all the time now and drivers are rarely, if ever, fined. 22.
