He had a streak of four consecutive 2nd place finishes at Rockingham snapped in this race. 9. And pole sitter Rick Mast had missed it the previous year, when he famously went on to quip that the failure "took 10 years off [his] life". 11. James W. Martin would go on to claim a career-best 22 top-5s and 26 top-10s throughout the 1998 season. 15. Mast ran well all race, eventually finishing just outside the top 10. I was wondering what happened to Benson and am glad someone cleared that up. Mayfield was running in the top 5 before a big wreck late in the race. He hung on long enough to finish the first car 1 lap down in 14th. Several big names were pitting on the backstretch, including Jarrett who finished in the top 10. 16. The Intimidator's success didn't continue here as he finished 17th and lost the lead to runner-up Rusty Wallace, finishing in the top-5 for the second week in a row. Earnhardt never lead the Winston Cup point standings again. 17. CJ posted: 04.18.2018 - 10:08 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) Season best and only Top 5 of 98 for Geoff Bodine. Otherwise Benson races in. Crap like that happened to Benson all the time. He should have won more than one race. 19.
