Rusty won the race in 1990, so he could still sleep at night. 2. Matt posted: 09.02.2005 - 4:25 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) This race was also Elliott Sadler's Cup Series debut. 3. Martin lapped a ton of other cars and finally had to put and DW held him off. The only reason why Waltrip finished a lap down was because of an ill-timed caution 4. Afterwards, he ranted about the 5 and 5 rule during an interview, claiming that they couldn't race correctly with the package. 5. biffle16 posted: 01.21.2007 - 3:33 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Kenny Irwin failed to qualify for this race, but he would never fail to qualify again until his death. 6. most posted: 01.29.2007 - 11:35 pm Rate this comment: (1) (1) I remember Dale ripping the window out to yell at Randy. I will draw some anger but Dale around 1996 became a real bossy crybaby about rules packages. I just always thought "get over it Dale, retire if you don't like the 5,5 package!" 7. myself posted: 05.18.2007 - 4:08 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Did every one of Gordon's 600s come @ Wallace's expense? 8. The team had run a special black Eagle One car wash products paint job the week before and his team had quickly had it repainted back into his standard Valvoline one for this race. 14. 18fan posted: 01.05.2010 - 9:14 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) After having no races won from the pole from Dover fall '97 to Texas spring '98, this was the third time in four races the race was won from the pole. 15. 18fan posted: 03.06.2010 - 8:45 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Bradberry's crash and the following pit stops is what enabled Gordon to win. Yet another pass within 10 laps and Rusty loss. Man he lost a lot of races in final 10 laps. 28. CJ posted: 04.18.2018 - 10:46 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) First Cup Series start for Elliott Sadler. Steve posted: 06.09.2018 - 7:25 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) For the first time in his Winston Cup career, Jeff Gordon is NOT the youngest driver in the field, because Elliott Sadler was 23 years old in his first Cup start. In Jeff's previous 166 starts, he was already a Daytona 500 winner, a 2-time Winston Cup Champion, and had 31 career wins. That ranked him 5th among active drivers, only behind DW, Dale, Rusty, and Bill, and 17th on the all-time list. All this while being the youngest guy in every race for 5 1/2 years! 30. Bill Elliott was beat up with injuries but was going to drive the full race unless he got a lap down. During the long green flag run he went a lap down, so he pulled over during the 3rd caution and put Jeff Green in the car who did a very good job to finish 14th. Mike Skinner was also still injured and they had Morgan Shepherd in the pit waiting to relief drive. Also during the 3rd caution Skinner wanted to get Morgan in the car, but Morgan Shepherd had left the pit and they couldn't find him, so Skinner had to stay in the car for longer. 35. Just the way it goes. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
