For a while, this looked like it may have been his final win, before he won the Southern 500 in 2003. 3. By the way, I like your creative screen name. 8. Darrell posted: 04.11.2007 - 4:06 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Also Ken Bouchard had a hard crash that caused him to DNQ. He spent some time in the hospital but was OK and attempted to qualify for a couple of more races that year. 9. Josh posted: 01.30.2008 - 12:28 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Nice win for Texas Terry. I also remember Sterling Marlin racing the john Wayne paint scheme for this race. Martin and Gordon both took very hard hits while having good cars. It seemed to take a while before Gordon had any success at Texas. 10. Anonymous posted: 04.07.2008 - 8:19 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Jeff Gordon's first last place finish 11. He also finished forty-second out of forty-two cars at Atlanta in '97. 12. jessie henyf posted: 06.13.2009 - 9:49 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) good races 1th 5 2th 88 13. jessie henyf posted: 06.13.2009 - 9:49 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) good win 14. Good run for the injured Bobby Labonte. Scary wrecks for Gordon and Skinner. 17. Was this one of those weird "CBS can't call it the Primestar 500" situations? 18. Schroeder51 posted: 03.23.2011 - 2:49 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Jeff Gordon was running 2nd to Mark Martin when his tire blew and he crashed. Mark Martin also blew a tire during a round of green flag pit stops and smacked the wall, but not as hard as Gordon and Skinner did. It still put him in the garage, however. 19. 10andJoe posted: 02.27.2012 - 3:53 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) #14 owner: Irvan-Simo Racing. 20. I don't know the accuracy of this, but what I heard was that General Motors had purchased a controlling stake in Primestar, and with Roush being a Ford guy (even having spot on ford BoD IIRC), the sponsorship was a no go. TV Guide did come on board as a primary sponsor next race and eventually Primestar was phased out. 22. SK posted: 03.08.2017 - 7:31 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Relief driver: #4 - Kenny Wallace 23. Then-Winston Cup director Gary Nelson came out three days after this race that NASCAR looked at options for that but disgarded the idea because it would eliminate brand identity for the manufacturers. A common template would however come to fruitation in 2007 when NASCAR introduced the Car of Tomorrow racers. 25.
