Tony Stewart was leading and got caught up in a big mess in turn 2 with Jeff Gordon and a few others. Gordon makes a great comeback to get 6th with a damaged car. With those two battling back, made it alot easier for Wallace. Dale Earnhardt crashed in Happy Hour on Saturday and had to start 43rd, made a good comeback to get 10th. 2. And at one point, Musgrave passed Rusty Wallace for 2nd and was closing in on Tony Stewart for the lead until Robert Pressley crashed. Steve Park spent much of the first half of the race right in front of the leaders, but somehow managed to not get lapped until just before the Pressley crash. Bobby Labonte spent the entire first half of the race in the top 4 until Pressley spun off the second turn and hit Labonte in the right front. Labonte tried to continue, but suffered significant suspension damage and had to go behind the wall to fix it after spending several laps running around at a slow pace. Tony Stewart never ran lower than 3rd until Jerry Nadeau was tapped into a spin by Bobby Labonte and backed it in the wall. Ricky Craven's lapped car spun into the back of Stewart and turned him around. Jeff Gordon, who had been in the top 6 the entire race, rear ended Robert Pressley's battered race car and stove in the nose of his car. Despite this damage, the Rainbow Warriors got the front of the Dupont Chevrolet taped up and he managed to fight his way up from 14th with 150 to go back to 6th. Kenny Irwin was in the top 10 early in the race when he lost an oil line. Behind him, some cars got together and Ernie Irvan spun into the inside wall hard. He returned to the race after 200 laps behind the wall, but because of the low number of accidents and cautions, retired because he could not gain a position. Ricky Rudd was running 7th when he tangled with the lapped car of Dick Trickle (who was already 5 laps down after having to make an early green flag pit stop just after the first caution), and spun into the turn 1 wall. He too would ultimately retire from the race after being unable to gain any more spots on the track. 6.
