Rusty Wallace said afterward that NASCAR should have thrown a caution to try and calm everyone down, since there was so much 4-and-5 wide racing. 2. It was played during a couple of mid-race recaps, the final recap, and the final results at the end. I did some researcg and it's apparently pre-licensed "library" music that was also used for a couple of "Friends" episodes. If anyone has this race on tape, you'll see what I mean. An .mp3 of this would be cool. Hmm. 3. Andretti proved to be one of the few drivers Earnhardt could not intimidate at Talladega - around Lap 47 while the two were side by side for second, he tried to swerve Andretti into slowing a tick and thus lose momentum, but Andretti stayed on and it took the lead a lap later. Following the backstretch crash Andretti was leader; Earnhardt rocketed from fourth alongside Andretti and tried to pinch him onto the apron of One, but Andretti repassed off Two before Michael Waltrip stormed three abreast under everyone. 5. The cars were visibly faster than they are now. 6. Mike Daly posted: 03.29.2007 - 10:59 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) Frogger, that 208 may be an exaggeration, but the cars probably were a tick faster than today - they were slicker and ran a slightly larger plate. 7. Go watch and see Earnhardt's last win at Talladega. See where Andretti was Intimidated by the Intimidator at the end of the race. Andretti basically rolled over for him. 13. Skinner was a great driver but he did not know when to back down and that was when Mike Skinner needed to back down. If it was a Truck he could have probably saved it, but you can't do it in the car. There were a lot of talks Earnhardt was too old to win races before this event, and he proved that he was more than capable. After the switch of crew chiefs, which Childress is not afraid to do(he did it again in 2002) Earnhardt had better outings. Larry Mac and Earnhardt did not get along all that great, and that was already apparent in the 1997 season. 15. He came across 9th but one lap down 17. Scott B posted: 01.22.2014 - 5:43 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) I believe Loy Allen Jr's DNQ for Junie Dunlevy was in a Ford, not a Chevy. It is listed as a Chevy on his driver's page also, but Dunlevy's #90 was normally a Ford team. Of course, they may have changed things up for a plate race. Can anyone confirm? 18. 23andJoe posted: 03.04.2014 - 3:05 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) #91 crew chief: Joe Falk 19. 52 posted: 09.13.2016 - 4:14 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) I remember how mad I was when Skinner was interviewed. My Dad wasn't too happy about that. I was mad Rusty got involved in "the big one". I really thought that was the day Rusty was gonna win a restrictor plate race. It wasn't to meant to be. I don't blame Jeff Gordon for coming across the track and coming into Rusty's path. Its not like Jeff Gordon started the accident to begin with. I don't get why Mike Skinner tried to block Tony Stewart in the grass of all places that early in the race. If its like 20-25 laps to go in the race maybe I understand. Its like Skinner thought he was going to lose alot of positions if he didn't block Tony. 28.
