If not for the exhaustion setting in in the last part of the race, he very well could've done it. 4. Ken posted: 06.09.2006 - 5:38 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) One of my all-time favorite races. Jeff Burton beats Bobby Labonte in a ferocious battle! 5. Frogger49 posted: 10.05.2006 - 2:15 am Rate this comment: (1) (0) Jeff Burton essentially ran away with this race. He had by far the best car, and had lapped the field all the way up to the top 15 by lap 100. 6. myself posted: 02.19.2007 - 8:44 pm Rate this comment: (2) (7) The last World 600 I attended. Sat in the backstretch cement seats. Nice interesting finish between 99 & 18. Everyone where I was sitting made fun of how gay Tony Stewart looked arriving in the helicopter & doing the Queen of England wave from the window as he passed! 7. Steve Park also had a good run until he wrecked. Decent 1st start for Jr. 8. The battle between Burton and Labonte at the end was really awesome, but since the race was otherwise uneventful, TBS was busy being away at commercial breaks when the leaders were going back and forth. 12. I was pulling so hard for Smoke, but I have to say I was slightly relieved that he didn't pull it off. It would have killed me to miss seeing his first win because of my stupid mistakes. After I got out I actually ditched community service to go to the Brickyard 400 for the weekend, lol. I got 10 more hours added on but hell it was well worth it to see my first race in person. Btw, I'm not a criminal, lol. I beat somebody up at school was all. :p 14. Schroeder51 posted: 04.04.2011 - 1:30 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) What a shame for Steve Park. He was the only other car good enough to challenge Jeff Burton and Bobby Labonte for the win that night, until he crashed out of the race. This race showed he could be competitive in NASCAR. 15. 18fan posted: 03.05.2012 - 1:50 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) This was the first 600 since 1993 that Jeff Gordon did not win the pole for. Gordon won 3 of the 5 600s he won the pole for between 1994-1998, but he has not the 600 or the 600 pole since 1998. He has 2 poles and 2 wins since 1998 in the fall race. 16. This was a Winston No Bull 5 race and Jeff Burton claimed the $1 million bonus with his victory. The other four drivers eligible from their performances earlier in the year at Las Vegas were polesitter and runner-up Bobby Labonte, 8th-place finisher Ward Burton, 9th-place Mike Skinner and Jeff Gordon (who blew an engine). Tony Stewart finished 9th, four laps down, in the Indy 500 earlier in the day. Stewart became the second driver to pull off the Sunday double after John Andretti in 1994, Robby Gordon ran both races in 1997 but not in the same day after the 500 was rained out. Speaking of Robby Gordon he spent most of 1999 running in CART but almost won the 1999 Indy 500 driving for John Menard only to run out of gas with two laps left and hand the win to Kenny Brack. Menard was again denied his Indy win that would eventually come in NASCAR as a sponsor with his son Paul in 2011. Gordon's pole streak probably ended because he was the fourth car out to qualify. The way it worked the track conditions were better for the later cars although Jeff Burton and Kenny Wallace were also among the first drivers to attempt. Kenny Schrader and the Skoal #33 team had a reverse paint job for this race, rather than a green car with gold numbers they had a gold Chevrolet with green numbers and lettering. Robert Pressley also ran a yellow panther-themed look in this race. 17. myself posted: 06.04.2013 - 12:20 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Says below that Tony Stewart finished 4th 18. Also, it was a "backup" as the primary #99 was wrecked during the All-star. This "backup" was the Las Vegas and Darlington winner car. 19. Things like that are unthinkable today with the aero sensitivity and no tyre wear. 20.
