His car was a lot better on shorter runs, had it not been for the 99 and 20 wrecking with about 35 to go, the leaders would have had to pitted with about 15 to go and Earnhardt would have won with ease... 12. petty 43 posted: 10.10.2008 - 4:03 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) first race that featured both junior and kenseth and my first cup race that i attended. michigan is a great place to see a race but it seems to be losing attendance 13. samfan22 posted: 01.29.2009 - 12:11 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) It's losing attendance because Michigan and Ohio have been hit harder than most states by the economic problems. It's a shame, it's a great track to watch a race at. 14. 18fan posted: 05.23.2009 - 12:14 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) I think this was the first race in Cup that Tony Stewart, Matt Kenseth, and Dale Earnhardt, Jr. all competed in. 15. I would love to ask you now what you were thinking about your new teammate then? Just a young, spoiled punk, or did you see more? 16. As mentioned before, from the start to the finish this race is probably the best ever at MIS. Earnhardt's run from the back to the front was typical of the Intimidator. The battle between Gordon, Earnhardt and Labonte for the lead with 20 to go is everything that stock car racing is and should be about; door-handle to door-handle excitement. That Earnhardt was able to hang with and fight off Labonte, Gordon, Stewart and Jarrett as long as he did at the end was a testament to his ability because his car was super tight. A lesser driver would have finished outside the top 10. 18. 18fan posted: 03.14.2011 - 11:33 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Definitely in the top 5 of my favorite races of my 125 or so races that I have on tape. 19. His Ford certainly wasn't 'Good to Go' afterward, he was done for the day. The slightly altered look was mainly his regular blue paint job with a different hood portraying a thumbs up symbol, the team switched from red-and-yellow strips around the car to white-and-silver ones at the next race. 22. Only two June wins, and the 1990 one was a lucky win. Earnhardt would have lost to a rookie Davey Allison in 1987 had it been one lap longer. He never won an August MIS race. All the other great drivers in NASCAR from 1969 on never struggled at MIS like Earnhadt did with the excpetion of Jimmy Johnson. 25. His car was better on shorter runs and after about 20 laps his car would get super tight. Had the race remained green instead of the caution coming out because of the 20 and 99 then he more than likely would have won. He dominated '87 Michigan race leading 152 laps and toying with Davey at the end and won in '90 because his engine lasted longer. Dale hardly ever had the "top engine" for any race so he had to make up for it as well as he could... and most of the time did. He won many races and championships without having the best car or engines. 26.
