Dale Jarrett entered the weekend needing to finish 8th or better to clinch his first Winston Cup title, and he finished 5th. However, unless Toyota's Nextel Cup program is championship-caliber in its first 2 or 3 years, this will be DJ's only Cup title. Also Boris Said made his Winston Cup oval track debut (34th). 7. They all drove the paint jobs of the shows main characters. Footage of them and their cars from practice was used to promote the series. The show would last 2 seasons. NBC took a lot of heat for their debut broadcast, much of it steeming from airing a piece on Robert Yates Racing in the middle of green flag racing. 14. While fans have different thoughts on nascar tv broadcasts since 2001 ill say that for all my time as a fan (87-present) the best tv was the 01-06 deal 23. His color commentators were Joe Gibbs and Mike Wallace, and that's where most of the fan hate was aimed. They were not a good pair as Gibbs was a better Football studio guy than a Nascar guy, and Wallace should have been on the track. In 2000 they were not asked back and Benny Parsons joined Bestwick, setting up the 2001-2006 seasons. Oddly enough Bill Webber was not the opening host of those two races, Brian Williams of all people was. He asked NBC Personally to do it as he was a major fan. He was not that bad really, he could have done that job for a few years if he wanted to, but he stayed with news and NBC/TNT got Bill Webber for 2001. 28. murb posted: 10.18.2014 - 2:04 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Yeah, the broadcast for this race was horrendous. RaceFanX posted: 06.04.2017 - 11:41 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) The characters for "NASCAR Racers" were a colorful bunch with the real race cars in this race modeled after those of the heroes from "Team Fastex." The series revolved around a fictional "NASCAR Unlimited Series" which featured races on wild tracks with loops the loops and extreme obstacles plus weapons like grappling hooks and cars that featured ejectable cockpits in the event of extreme, and common, crashes. Jeff Gordon's #24 had a red-and-lightning-themed look to replicate the #204 from the show of "Mark "Charger" McCutchen," a third-generation NASCAR racer. Terry Labonte's #5 had a teal-and-yellow scheme to resemble the show's #101 racer of Megan "Spitfire" Fassler, the tech expert who designed all the new cars then took up racing. Bobby Labonte's #18 had a green-and-yellow look to replicate the car #404 racer on the show of Hispanic racer Carlos "Stunts" Rey, a motorcycle stuntman who takes up car racing. Kenny Wallace's #55 was given a blue-and-silver scheme to look like the show's #808 entry for Steve "Flyer" Sharp, an African-American U.S. Air Force veteran with PTSD. On the cartoon the bad guys Team Fastex raced against were "Team Rexcor" and included a crash-focused NASCAR veteran, a fashion model turned racer who had run powerboats before switching over, a German F1 washout with a history of cheating, a guy who wanted to have a ghost-like image, and later a evil robot driver that it took NASCAR two races to figure out was a machine. The second season added a rising star rookie, an Army guy with a tank turret on his car, a girl who chromed her entire car, a phony friend working for the bad guys, a mystery racer who's real identity was never revealed, a grisled ex-Winston Cup racer, and a stuntwoman who managed to land a NASCAR license despite being a convicted felon. To spoil the series Charger won the title in the first season and Flyer won the crown in the second. 36. Ferret posted: 06.04.2017 - 1:12 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) I remember that cartoon....didn't they have or plan to have a spinoff video game at some point? I swear it was for the PS1 Also, I remember the full page ads in the magazines, and commercials on TV, admittedly I'd like modern NASCAR to have grappling hooks for when one guy is running away with the race. The show was ahead of its time as far as having females, Hispanics and so forth in the show. And having seen a few episodes, it's actually mindless fun if you don't take it seriously. 37. RaceFanX posted: 06.04.2017 - 2:01 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Several episodes of that show admittedly did feature plots that slightly foreshadowed future NASCAR trends. There were episodes that saw Team Rexcor cheating with fuel additives and several where it ordered its drivers to crash on purpose from time to time to help out its other cars; both of which MWR did (Granted Rexcor was more outright evil, they sabotaged EVERYONE ELSE'S FUEL rather than juicing their own). There was also an episode where NASCAR showed its greener side, promoting an environment cause (although more over the top than the NASCAR Green initiative, they took the whole series to the Amazon jungle to rise awareness against its destruction) and one about special paint schemes. Later episodes featured drivers in financial trouble and having to deal with a slump after prior success. 38. Ferret posted: 06.04.2017 - 3:58 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) I don't think the writers intentionally foreshadowed anything knowingly, more they reached into a bag of storylines nad went with those they felt would be plausible for a series, and they were broad and generic enough that there was a good shot they'd come to pass. Also after having rewatched the entire 1999 season, and the two series of the show....more of both, more of the unpredictability of the sport and more weird and quirky but strangely enjoyable TV shows. 39. kup posted: 11.02.2017 - 8:26 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) UPS: universal points system. And was a won by a 2020 hall off famer in a race that had 13 guys either in hall of fame or were nominated now you count Jeff Burton who was for the 1st time just a couple of days ago. By the way it was the 2nd cup race Allen Bestwick did on TV play by the play because he did the Charlotte fall race marking his cup TV Broadcasting debut, I just wanted to throw that in. But I am glad they're airing a race that is now a Fox Telecast this yea whenever they GET IT BACK GOING AND I HOPE SOON! 41.
