Just looking at the stat sheet and couldn't believe what I was looking at. 2. Darrell posted: 02.18.2006 - 9:52 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Not the first time that's happened. 3. His car was so good on old tires. It's amazing that he only led one lap. 7. Dana Johnson posted: 01.11.2009 - 7:56 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) I was working security in turn 3 for this race. Dale's car consistently got faster as he put laps on his tires. If there had been a few more laps he would have caught Labonte. 8. " Yep, Earnhardt was even passed on the last run by Tony Stewart and he passed Stewart back later on in the run and almost caught Labonte. Stewart even said he learned a lot from Earnhardt that day saving tires. 10. 00andJoe posted: 09.11.2011 - 2:35 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) DNQ car owners: #50: Hal Hicks/Mike Witter #93: Bill Davis #14: A.J. He'd win at Darlington in the fall and at Lowe's again in the fall. *First race of the final year of NASCAR on TNN. 13. Older models remain legal for about two years or so after a changeover (although most phase out immediately due simply to progress and brand support). Carl Long would run the older 1998-1999 Ford Taurus in the fall at Rockingham, Rick Mast ran a two-year old Ford Thunderbird in the 1999 Bud Shootout. 15. He led 42 laps before the car failed and relegated him to a finish as poor as his starting spot. The start of a dreadful year for Bobby. 16. 88&4Fan posted: 11.24.2015 - 1:50 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) This would be the last time Dave Blaney missed a race until 2007. 17. What confuses me is Kenny Wallace & Bill Elliott going to the back on engine changes as there was no one-engine rule in 2000. That wouldn't happen until 2002. 25. Within the first 10 laps of the race, he had fallen from 10th to 42nd. It should also be noted that on the lap 20 caution, some of the top-running teams stayed out. Bobby Hamilton and Ward Burton were among those who pitted, and the fresh tires ended up giving them a massive advantage. So while Hamilton and Burton did have strong cars, the call to pit under that first caution was also a factor in helping Hamilton in particular get to the front so quickly. 28. possum posted: 01.19.2021 - 7:52 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @27 - NASCAR was known at times to look the other way on various kinds of rule-bending to ensure a major sponsor's car made a race they sponsored, so one is naturally suspicious of Waltrip's time, being quite a bit faster than his other Rockingham races in Carter's car, and much faster than his race pace. OTOH, Waltrip did occasionally pull out a surprising qualifying run in his last few years (especially at DEI), so he may well have lucked into a good combination of setup and weather for his run. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
