Check us out and join our Yahoo Group. RacingReference.Com is a great site! 2. Chad Kerlick posted: 06.18.2004 - 7:43 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) This was my first race. It was just unbelievable and made me a lifetime fan. I remember thinking while watching Jr through the day that he was either gonna blow up or win by alot. He just dominated that race most of the day. 3. Jack Lewis posted: 07.28.2004 - 6:05 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) This race was Adam Petty's first and sadly only Winston Cup start. He was killed just over a month later. 4. Jake posted: 10.02.2004 - 2:05 pm Rate this comment: (2) (1) Dale Jr. dominated the day and took home his 1st career Winston Cup win!!! That day was so awesome. One race I'll never forget. At that point, he set a modern-era record for the earliest Winston Cup winner. The Earnhardt legacy started a new chapter that day with Dale Jr's first win!!! 5. Especially when you consider that Junior's team had to drag out the victory celebration for all it was worth, ensuring that Junior would be the only one interviewed after the race. Junior may not have cheated, but this race sure set the standard for him being the "Face of NASCAR," and how his fans feel about this. P.S. Excellent qualifying efforts by Terry Labonte, Scott Pruett, and Jeff Fuller, by the way. 6. je24go posted: 02.02.2006 - 10:45 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) Great run by Kevin Lepage 7. smoke20ri posted: 04.01.2006 - 2:46 am Rate this comment: (0) (2) I am curious about something and am not looking to start an argument, but how did Dale Jr. cheat? 8. He never ran all that well in the races, though, which led to his dismissal in favor of Mike Bliss, who had already been fired out of the Conseco #14 earlier in the season. 11. A lifelong Sr. fan (not so much Jr. I go for Harvick now!) he was happier in victory lane than he ever was for winning a race. The father and son thing was really a touching moment for any fan of the Earnhardts. 16. samfan08 posted: 05.18.2008 - 8:48 pm Rate this comment: (4) (0) "This was the last race Lee Petty was alive to watch (and no doubt he was). He passed away less than a week later." The Petty family goes from celebration(first 4 generation family in NASCAR history) to tragic in less than a week. Lee dies, Adam dies a month later, and now it's obvious that Kyle's heart just isn't in it anymore. Possibly the end of the Petty family being competitive in NASCAR, very sad. 17. The silver and blue car had an outline of the state of Texas on the hood and "Texas Proud" on the rear quarter panels. The John Wayne car is not pictured on the Jayski site, but it was drove at the NAPA 500 in California, not in this race. 30. mister83 posted: 06.27.2015 - 10:21 pm Rate this comment: (1) (1) Wow. Kevin LePage actually finished fifth. I know he was driving for Roush but still, this is Kevin LePage we're talking about, the guy who once wrecked the whole field coming out of pit road. 31. Lee and the King did it in 1960 and 1961. Bobby and Davey did it in 1987 and 1988. 32. Maverick11 posted: 03.19.2016 - 1:13 am Rate this comment: (1) (1) I was born three days after this race. 33. TeamDCRfan posted: 04.02.2019 - 7:04 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Adams Busch team, which was owned by Kyle Petty, ran Chevrolets, and this technically was that team. Plus sprint had put marketing around Chevrolet, not Pontiac. Same thing happened with the Tobasco Fiasco in 98, when Tim Beverley bought DarWal Inc and ISM Racing and merged them together with intentions of fielding the No. 35 Chevy Monte Carlo for DW. Tobasco got mad and said no, they had to run Pontiac because they had invested in marketing with Pontiac. 36. Kyle Petty was actually just 20 points away from making this race. His qualifying speed may have been next-to-last, but going into this race, he was 1 position (19 points) behind Robert Pressley in the standings, and Pressley took the last provisional spot. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
