That is how strong Rusty's car was. 8. myself posted: 02.28.2008 - 11:03 am Rate this comment: (2) (0) Anyone know why Martin has such a professed hatred for Martinsville? 9. Back in the 1994-20033 era, even the worst drivers could qualify well. 10. Mark likes to drive smoothly and avoid contact, and you can't do either of those at M'Ville. 13. 18fan posted: 03.26.2011 - 11:59 am Rate this comment: (2) (0) Kenny Wallace was running second on lap 4 when his throttle hung going into turn 3 and his car was destroyed. 14. But Dale Sr. got on his radio during a caution and asked his spotter: Earnhardt: "Who brought out that last caution? Was it Jr.?" Spotter: "Yes" Earnhardt: "Tell him I said to park that damn thing!" Classic Dale Sr. Martinsville was very hard on Dale Jr. in 2000 and 2001. 17. I just finished watching this race, and here's what actually happened. On lap 254, Rusty Wallace got a flat tire and barely kept it off the wall. He went 2 laps down, but with fresh tires, he caught the leaders and got 1 of his laps back. Ultimately, he benefited from a long green-flag run where everyone else except for Ken Schrader and Michael Waltrip ended up having to pit under green. At that point, the tenth caution came out. Schrader, Waltrip, and Rusty were the only cars on the lead lap (Rusty had gained a lot of time on the track by running the last 55 laps on fresh tires). All the other leaders ended up on the tail end of the lead lap for the next restart. With about 60 laps to go, Rusty and most of the leaders pitted, while some guys at the back (who had pitted under the previous caution) stayed out. Rusty never could regain his lost track position and that's why he finished so poorly. 24. He lost a lap when he got spun out early, then he earned his lap back the hard way. Later, he got spun out a second time, and again stayed in front of or just behind the leaders for a long period of time, but the caution didn't fly at the right time to help him get his lap back again. He later got spun out a third time and lost several laps while stuck in the wet grass. Still, for a good part of the race, he ran right with (or just ahead of) the leaders. John Andretti was running 3rd on the final restart, but spun and finished 14th. Bobby Hamilton was in or near the top 10 all day until spinning out late and losing a lap. Ricky Rudd also looked to have a car capable of contending for the win until getting caught up in a chain-reaction crash. Several teams were penalized for not bringing their right-side tires back towards the wall before their car left the pit stall, which was a new rule for this race after several recent issues being caused by right-side tires being left on pit road. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
