Even though it was simply because Jeremy stood on the car in Victory Lane in celebration, the NASCAR Gestapo didn't care. 3. Jeff Gordon was penalized only 100 points from his win at Richmond for an illegal intake manifold, but they penalize Jeremy Mayfield 151 points for just jumping on the roof and knocking the roof in?! Pure bullshit. 8. Dan posted: 03.16.2007 - 6:15 pm Rate this comment: (2) (2) "This race once again proves that NA$CAR just LOVES Rick Hendrick. So shut down the computer and let us grownups talk, little boy. Your Hendrick favoritism conspiracy theories and Greg Biffle loving are getting old fast. 10. biffle16 posted: 05.29.2007 - 1:32 am Rate this comment: (0) (2) The same strong language could also be used to describe what's coming out of YOUR mouth, Anonymous. 11. Shame that NASCAR was real idiotic in taking so many points from Mayfield, and I don't even like him! Kenseth should've won, though. 12. OlBlueSuedes56 posted: 10.02.2007 - 3:24 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Let's be clear here. The 151 points penalty was NOT FOR THIS RACE. It was for the race at Talladega. This race Jeremy put a footprint in the hood during the celebration right where the hood was measured. NASCAR acknowledged it was an accident and took no points. 13. ARR94 posted: 05.13.2010 - 2:52 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Jeff Gordon lost 100 points at Sonoma in 2007, not Richmond as far as I know. Mayfield should of have lost points from Talladega not where he got his first win. 18. martin-n-rusty posted: 09.23.2010 - 6:30 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) But because of the whole ordeal with standing on the roof, NASCAR banned the practice, so such a thing would not happen again. 19. Breaker posted: 03.06.2012 - 9:15 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Jeff Gordon got a 100 point penalty for an illegal intake manifold at Richmond in 2000. Mayfield's penalty seemed to stem from the fact that two weeks in a row there was something off with the car. It was low after California and I think they found a fuel additive of some sort from Talladega. They didn't do the penalty until after California because they had to run tests after Talladega, if I remember correctly. 20. My buddy went to 2 races in the 2002 season, this one and Pocono(father's day monday) and Mayfield won both. Oops. He saw 2 of Mayfield's 5 career wins. 22. Will posted: 10.28.2012 - 10:08 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Because the investigation was still on-going with Mayfield's illegal fuel the week after Talladega, it wasn't until after this race that he was actually penalized. It was a pretty heavy penalty. I don't think that Nascar liked his roof being too low after this race, either. I wonder if that helped lead to the stiffness of the penalty. 23. Evan posted: 12.22.2013 - 6:38 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Actually drivers have gotten on the roofs of their cars since then. Steve Park jumped off his roof into his crew at Rockingham in 2001. Elliott Sadler did it Bristol in 2001 after his win at the Food City 500 and Jeff Gordon celebrated on his roof in 2001 a couple of times, Kansas is where they really put a stop to it where they put a bar up to keep Jeff from getting in the car. Ward Burton celebrated on top of his car in 2002 at the Daytona 500. The practice was eventually discontinued by NASCAR but 2000 was where they were slowly discouraging drivers to NOT jump on the roof, I disagree and think the drivers should jump on the roof and spray their crew with beer, champagne, and coke. Let it all hang out. 24. joey2448 posted: 03.31.2014 - 5:56 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) A record 10th different winner in the first 10 races of the 2000 season! 25. b4il3y posted: 06.14.2014 - 4:14 am Rate this comment: (0) (3) 13.
