That streak was broken the next week as Tony Stewart once again got the winners interview in Victory Lane. 2. They were both knocked out of the race by their late race accidents. 6. This was Kyle's first race since the death of his son Adam. 8. Terry Maynard posted: 06.05.2015 - 5:26 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Michael Waltrip's sponsor for this race was Philips Light Bulbs. He normally drove the car with Nations Rent on the hood and Philips Light Bulbs on the rear quarter panels, but in this race Philips Light Bulbs was on both. 9. MBNA sponsored both races at Dover and Labonte had MBNA as the primary sponsor on the hood of his car for both. 10. He then went the final 21 weeks of the season without a top-10. 12. GoRC10 posted: 04.03.2020 - 3:16 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) @11 Interestingly, he was 15th in points after this race. Despite his swoon, Junior would only drop one spot in the final tally. 13. If their lap counts are correct, then Jeff Gordon and Sterling Marlin did not finish this race. Leader Tony Stewart was working lap 381 as he put Jeff Gordon a lap down. Gordon blew a tire and hit the wall at the same moment. Stewart crossed the line to complete 381 laps before the caution came out, and Gordon crossed the line to complete 380 laps before he made it onto pit road the next time around. Since 380 is Gordon's listed lap total, he must not have returned to the track. A couple of other random tidbits: - Joe Nemechek ran well all race long, generally between 4th and 6th. He pitted just before the caution came out for Gordon, which trapped him 2 laps down at the finish. - It was mentioned during the broadcast that this was Mark Martin's 4th consecutive finish outside the top 10--the first time that had happened since 1989, which is a most impressive record of consistency. 15. possum posted: 03.05.2021 - 7:27 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @14 - not returning to the track, and not finishing are different things. It's to be presumed that Gordon's crew continued working on repairing the car during the final 18 laps of the race (Stewart being 2 laps ahead per your post there'd have been 18 laps left). Since they didn't retire the car, NASCAR considers it to be "running" at the finish. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
