They became the first family since Lee, Richard, and Maurice Petty in 1960 to accomplish this feat. One of the most awesome things ever to happen. 2. This was the only Winston/Nextel Cup race in recent memory in which ESPN neglected to do post-race interviews due to time constraints. The X-Games were more important on this day, apparently. 7. smoke20ri posted: 04.01.2006 - 3:04 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Was this the race that Tony got into Jeff Gordon after their incident the week before? If I remmber Tony was running the bottom, got loose and took hinself and Jeff Gordon out. Tony was moving through the field when it happened if I remember correctly. 8. Big Orange was strong that day, but it met an untimely end only 36 laps into the race. *tear* On to happier things....well this race sucked for me so nevermind. 9. They didn't even act like Rusty had won the race, they were acting as if the win was going to be decided between Crudd and Bobby. But I think they mentioned that Rusty won AFTER Crudd and Bobby crossed the start finish line. This in my opionin the worst race analysis ever! At this time however, I cheered because Tony and Gordon wrecked and they wrecked together. Now the funny thing is, Tony is my favorite driver and I like Gordon now too, so I am ashamed to say that I ever cheered when Gordon and Stewart crashed. 14. Benny called Rusty's run to the flag as they showed him win the race. 17. MIS is a Ford dominated track, so it's not surprizing to me that they failed to do so. Only 2 wins each for Senior and Junior at MIS, and they each had a cheap one to boot. Senior benefitted from a blown Elliott engine in 1990 and Junior had a cheap fuelie win. 18. 23andJoe posted: 06.20.2014 - 3:02 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) #71 crew chief: Tim Weiss 19. So did guys like Bobby Hamilton and Wally Dallenbach had nice showings despite what the results showed. 20. Dave Marcis planned on skipping this race entirely but Richard Childress approached Marcis to put Kerry in the car. The car was an RCR prepared car, RCR's pit crew from Hornaday's Xfinity team was brought in. Marcis' sponsor, Team Realtree remained on board. 27. Lots of notable things about this race. 28. possum posted: 11.28.2020 - 5:24 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @27 - the only surprise there is Geoff Bodine, since Joe Bessey's team had competitive cars and Bodine himself still had decent skills. But everyone can have an off day. Petty is not a surprise since Petty Enterprises was having a bad year, and they'd struggled to qualify at several races. And little needs to be said about Waltrip, who was well past his sell-by date and had DNQ frequently for at least the prior 4 years (albeit still making races due to the past champions provisional). ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
