According to autoracing1.com, Long's Mansion Motorsports Ford was handling very well, and he felt that he could even possibly stay on the lead lap for most, if not all, of the race. Apparently, they had the wrong gear setup on starts and restarts, and after a couple laps of gathering the thing back up, Long was actually passing guys. Unfortunately, he tangled with Stacy Compton and Scott Pruett on lap 12 and ended his Winston Cup debut in abrupt fashion. Still, it's great that Thee Dixon was able to field a car and to put Long in it. Long was actually supposed to make his Winston Cup debut at the Coca-Cola 600 earlier in the year, but he gave up the ride to Darrell Waltrip, who I think used up all of his past champions provisionals by the 12th race of the season. 10. MBNA sponsored both Dover races and he had MBNA on the hood as the primary sponsor for both. Also, Michael Waltrip's sponsor for this race was New Holland Construction / Philips Light Bulbs 11. mister83 posted: 06.29.2015 - 9:28 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Roush logic: fire Chad Little, who is 21st in points, but keep Kevin LePage, who is 28th in points and has a DNQ. 12. Alex posted: 06.30.2016 - 4:52 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @ Poster #11: the reason Roush fired Little instead of Lepage was because the #97 team was a much better team than the #16, and he wanted Busch to take over full time in 2001, so it was beneficial to get him starts in the #97 for the rest of 2000. Lepage got to finish 2000 with the #16 team, but then was fired and the #16 did not run in 2001, so it was more of a stay of execution. Of course the #16 eventually came back with Biffle in 2002. 13. Randy LaJoie has talked before about when the cup guys would run the Busch series around this time period that because they weren't competing for a championship they would set the engines (not sure if it was more then engines) to such an extreme limit that it would allow them to compete for a win and lead a lot of laps or blow up. LaJoie talked about how the Busch regulars couldn't do that because they were competing for a championship. 15.
