Carl Long finishes a race for the first time (2nd start). I own the book, "Driver 8", by Dale Earnhardt Jr. In this race (according to the book, Lap 234), Kurt Busch made contact with Jr., and he hit the wall hard. After the crew repaired his car (the book says he returned to the track 58 laps down), Junior gets back on the track, ironically, behind Kurt Busch. He gets right on his back bumper. His crew tells him to back off. Junior says he's having radio trouble (a lie). Tony Eury Sr., his crew chief starts telling him. "Leave that f***ing kid alone!!!" he says. Eventually he can't gain any more positions, so he calls it a day, and Kurt Busch finishes 24th. 3. Carl started the outdated car shotgun on the field but moved up to finish 32nd albeit 52 laps down and in front of only one other car that was still running. 10. Fans were able to vote in the lead-up to this race between the 'Butter Bomber,' the 'Kernel Crusier' and the 'Pop Rod.' The 'Butter Bomber' won and was raced here by Andretti (It was more product-focused look of the three featuring flames and popcorn, the others focused more on images of Richard Petty or his logo). 13. It seemed Jr was a future champion and Busch, in over his head. Now some 14 years later, Jr is a paper champion and Busch won a title just 4 years after this race. 17. They never should have taken a single race from The Rock, much less both of them. 21.
