Ricky Rudd had the race won before Rick Mast and Mike Bliss tangled and he had no where to go. 5. He really started running strongly at this point, making him a favorite for most improved team from 2000 to 2001. 6. The two Wallace brothers and Ryan Newman would have been an insane three-car team. If Penske had kept Mike Wallace, Mike would have his Cup win. 7. And in this race Steve Park's Pennzoil Chevy was 3rd, along with Valvoline and Amoco in the Top 10! The other motor oil sponsored cars: Elliott Sadler's CITGO Ford was 30th, and Ricky Rudd's Texaco-Havoline Ford was in the aforementioned crash that I still remember to this day. What a heartbreak that was! 9. biffle16 posted: 01.13.2007 - 10:21 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) What a public relations nightmare! 10. It's sad to see Citgo go from sponsoring proven winners to where they are now. 16. Dick Berggren went to FOX where he remains, Glenn Jarrett went to be a pit reporter for TNT's Busch races at their one-off dates and also some Truck races. Buddy Baker retired as a broadcaster and became a mentor to Penske Racing drivers Ryan Newman in 2002 and Brendan Gaughan. Baker also served as a spotter for Newman in some events. Steve Byrnes, who got his first taste of action in NASCAR also took his talents to FOX. The FOX team are basically a reincarnation of the TNN broadcast team, Mike Joy, Larry McReynolds, and Darrell Waltrip who all saw time on the network when it covered Busch races. 17. The World Television logo with the racing triangles that all came together to form their logo was altered for the end of this race (and their coverage) so that after they came together the word "Goodbye" appeared under the logo. Shame to see them go, TNN had already rebadged from The Nashville Network to the The National Network, losing most of its down home programing, but it wouldn't last as the network later evolved into the man-themed SpikeTV and now just SPIKE. TNN covered some ASA, World of Outlaws and Monster Truck races after this if I recall correctly but motorsports coverage was largely phased out by the end of 2002...with a brief revival in the mid-2000s as Spike for the Champ Car World Series. 20. It was supposed to race in Charlotte almost a month earlier, but Pruett failed to qualify. Tide did a nice thing and flew the family (again, as they already had flown them to Charlotte) to Phoenix to see the scheme actually race.
