It stopped, so they started racing again for 16 laps when the rains came again halting the race until Monday at lap 55. 15. "We''ll let the cars and you're memories take us around the track on lap 3." Of course, they broke it if it was under caution or if a crash happened ON lap 3. Also it was heartwrenching when Junior crashed and Darrell says: "oh, man, this cannot be happening to this young man." Sad. I was 16 at the time, and school was snowed out, so I watched with my girlfriend at the time. She was a little surprised when I had a tear or two roll down when Steve won. Those were tough days that february. 18. Jesse posted: 10.20.2008 - 7:40 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) The last time that Rusty led the points standings. 19. But there aren't many other new NA$CAR followers who value its history and heroes. Many just want to see the crashes and hissy fits. Except for the living legends like Petty, Pearson, Yarborough, Allison, etc, NA$CAR has done a crap job of educating or introducing its great champions and big winners to the new generations. I didn't even know who Neil Bonnett, Harry Gant, Alan Kulwicki, or Tim Richmond were until I started watching old Winston Cup races on ESPN Classic. 31. Park was emotional in victory lane and probably the only time DEI in its whole time being owned by the Earnhardt family won consecutive races. It was the best week you could have after losing Dale Earnhardt who would be extremely pleased with the win. Harvick runs a 29 with black numbers and then runs red numbers the rest of the season, I do not know if he ran the black numbers any other time in 2001. 32. 18fan posted: 11.06.2011 - 2:35 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Dale Jarrett's first finish outside the top 10 at Rockingham since he got the #88 ride in 1996. 33. It's kind of funny how Bill Simpson and/or the New Hampshire Speedway owners/president didn't receive death threats after the deaths of Adam Petty and Kenny Irwin, Jr. But you know, I guess those 2 guys don't matter. Only when it happens to Dale Earnhardt does the entire world have to stop and we must demand changes right this instant! We can't race. Dale Earnhardt is dead! 48. Steve posted: 07.02.2018 - 4:27 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Just 312 wins represented in the field after Darrell's retirement and Dale's death. Other than 1993 (due to Richard Petty's retirement, and Kulwicki & Allison's deaths), that's the lowest total for any modern-era Cup race. In the next 5 years, with the pending retirements of Kurt Busch, Kevin Harvick, Ryan Newman, Jimmie Johnson, Jamie McMurray, and Kasey Kahne, we could see lower numbers than that. The latest generation of drivers have only won a total of 11 races (Larson 5, Stenhouse Jr 2, Dillon 2, Bayne 1, & Buescher 1) thus far. 49.
