Rusty Wallace had the dominant car but Jeff Gordon gave him hell, and it
allowed Tony Stewart to take advantage and score the win. After the race
wrapped up, Gordon and Rusty exchanged words on pit road.

actually won by a Pontiac!

Ken Schrader was running 16th a lap down with 10 laps to go, but Stewart
let him back on the lead lap when the yellow came out three laps later.
After the race restarted with 3 to go, Schrader made his way into the
top 10 in the ensuing chaos.

Jeff and Rusty had their annual beat and bang fest at richmond, they had
the same thing happen in 1998 which Rusty crashed Gordon and in 2000 he
and Rusty got in it again. On FX, during a flashback of Rusty and Jeff's
scrapes, Darrell jokingly remarks "and that is not asking for
directions" when they exchange a fierce exchange.

Only race I've attended at Richmond. Started on a Saturday night, and
then torrential rains began to fall. Had to return on Sunday afternoon
to see Smoke win.

DOH! In the words of Bugs Bunny, I'm such a maroon. It was the 2002 race
that was rain delayed from Saturday to Sunday.

This was Jeff Gordon's 268th start for Hendrick Motorsports, moving him
ahead of Ken Schrader and making him the driver with the most races for
Hendrick - a record he still has by a comfortable margin.

Statistical oddity: Rusty Wallace started 2nd and led 276 laps in both
2001 Richmond races, but failed to win each time.

@16 I can understand starting 2nd in both races, but leading the exact
same number of laps? And it isn't one of those lead 25 laps sort of
deal... Rusty led 276 in both races, utterly dominating his competition,
but failing to win.

Mike Joy along with Larry McReynolds and Darrell Waltrip were the
commentators. Dr. Dick Berggren along with Steve Byrnes, Matt Yocum and
Jeanne Zelasko were the pit road reporters. Chris Myers and Jeff Hammond
were in the Hollywood hotel.
