Ricky Rudd passed him with a few laps left, but on the last lap Gordon drove very hard into turn 1 on the outside and somehow the car stuck. Gordon made the pass and held off the #28 at the line for his second Michigan win and his first in the spring race. 4. biffle16 posted: 12.30.2006 - 10:09 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) I'm not sure, but I think I heard that this was Hendrick Motorsports' 100th win. 5. Schafe posted: 06.02.2008 - 4:02 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) I'm not sure why Newman didn't receive points, but Green was to run Dover in that #30 but quals were rained out...thus, he entered this race as a replacement: the problem was, this was after the entry deadline set by NASCAR. Thus, no points for the 30. 10. Dave posted: 06.11.2008 - 3:57 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Newman didn't recieve any points for the same reason as Jeff Green - a post entry that didn't make the deadline. This was more common back then, haven't seen it since then. 11. adamal82 posted: 09.03.2008 - 2:15 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) The last time that a Junie Donlavey Car finished on the Lead Lap 12. Weird rule. 20. The black-and-red Ali paint scheme was Bill Elliott's first special paint scheme racing Ray Everham's new #9 Dodge. Nice to see this one-off combination of The Greatest and Awesome Bill netted a top-10. Dodge arranged for the special paint scheme as part of a new mechanic diversity program it was endorsing. 34. murb posted: 06.05.2016 - 1:24 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Gordon led almost three quarters of the race, but if I remember correctly this was a fun one from start to finish. Lots of great battles all over the track, along with some different players racing up in the top ten (rookie/part-time Newman, Stricklin, Blaney, etc) which made things interesting. And then of course the epic battle with Gordon and Rudd for the win. One of the better early 2000s Michigan races I think (and CERTAINLY better than just about any Michigan race from the late 90s - holy hell did some of those suck to watch). 35. Anonermoust posted: 12.16.2018 - 3:00 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Rusty was pissed at Todd Bodine after their incident early in the race. They were side by side down the backstretch and the two of them made contact. They didn't have a good replay to determine who was at fault, and the two of them seemed to have different ideas of how it started. I also remember Rusty calling Todd a 'kid', even though he was 37 at the time. lol. 38. Tarheel posted: 12.16.2018 - 5:32 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) If I remember correctly, Rudd and Gordon got a pit road penalty near the end of the race, lined for a restart outside the top ten, and in about twelve laps they were back up front. You could actually pass without being totally reliant on aero. 39.
