The double header weekend was just a day late! 4. One of the best races of the season. 5. April 1996, October 2001 (both at M-ville), and June 2006 at Pocono were his only official brake failures. That's in a career total of 160 DNFs (18.9% of his starts). 7. biffle16 posted: 01.13.2007 - 3:33 pm Rate this comment: (3) (0) Kevin Harvick...what an idiot. Punting Bobby Hamilton, getting ON the throttle as he was punting Hamilton, and then being an arrogant turd about it. Simply inexcusable. 8. What a retard, just like "Harvick sweeps at Bristol,... at Richmond." Glad he was stupid enough to complain about his hotel room last year in New Hampshire and got fired by TNT. 14. I guess everybody had their mind on Rudd since he blew up and buried himself in the championship hunt. 16. jarhead posted: 12.26.2011 - 10:29 pm Rate this comment: (4) (0) I was at this race. Highlight of my weekend was watching a guy drink a Mountain Dew THROUGH his sock to win a free T-shirt on Sunday before the rainout. He put his sock and shoe back on and went on about his business. In regards to comment #9, I got Rich Bickle's autograph at his souvenir trailer before the race. 17. Evan posted: 09.07.2014 - 12:46 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) I never saw this race on the date it was shown, I had other commitments, I was in school. Someone does have the race uploaded to youtube, so I watched it there. If Bill Weber had not have complained about his hotel room accommodations, he probably would be broadcasting on TNT to this day and what's even worse to think about is that he probably would be on NBC's revived coverage as well next year. But thankfully that all went out the window. I recall Ricky Rudd being solidly in second spot as a threat to Jeff Gordon in the summer but as the season went into the fall, Ricky backslid all the way to about 8th or 9th in the standings because of problems like these. This was about the beginning of the downfall of Yates Racing. Dale Jarrett never reached the total of wins he had in 2001 again, they had personnel issues that never got ironed out, Todd Parrott wanted to get off the pit box but they never had a clear plan to put another in place and then started the crew chief committee which never panned out. Both of Ricky Craven's wins came when he has had to outdo someone for it, this was not the beating-banging fest at the line like 2003 at Darlington, but Jarrett raced Craven clean and made him work for it. Craven's career which was at a crossroads, there was a lot of wonders whether or not Craven could stand up to a full year and he was up to the task as he joined Elliott Sadler, Michael Waltrip, and Kevin Harvick as first time winners in the Winston Cup Series. 19. I've always specifically remembered Allen Bestwick mention this during the DNQ list before the race. 23. NASCARLover22 posted: 07.15.2015 - 7:33 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @21 Carl Long also ran a green #13 Dodge in the Xfinity race earlier at Dover this year, only to have it destroyed in practice from a weight off the 97 car. This shows that you should NEVER drive a car with the number #13, as it will cost you a lot of money. 24. mister83 posted: 07.15.2015 - 7:42 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Well, there has always been a superstition that the #13 is an unlucky number. And there is also a superstition that green is an unlucky color in NASCAR for whatever reason. You would think they would cancel each other out, but I guess not. 25. sk posted: 11.29.2015 - 10:06 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @19: Rick Mast qualified the #29 and would have gotten the ride in the Goodwrench Chevy if the race had been run as scheduled, on Sunday. Mast was rideless at the time and hooked on with Junie Donlavey's team a week later to finish out the year, but what a cool opportunity it would have been for ol' Rick to drive some top-flight equipment for a weekend. Also, Kyle Petty was set to drive the #1 car for DEI after missing the race, but the rain meant Kenny Wallace could pull his double-duty after all. 26. Bobby rammed into Harvick HARD and Kevin saved, then Kevin gave him a slight bump in the next turn and Bobby (who had far less talent) stepped on his nuts and lost the car. Pretty ridiculous 1 lap penalty but that's what happens when it's a rookie vs a veteran. 30. Ricky Craven's road to victory lane was years in the making. After having a successful two-year run with Larry Hedrick in '95 and '96 with strong runs both years, Craven moved to Hendrick Motorsports in '97 and many felt Craven was on his way to becoming a star with race win after race win year after year. Sadly, that did not happen due to the injury he suffered at Texas in April of '97 and the slow decline begun. The great finishes stopped happening and the consistency was gone and by mid '98, Craven was out at Hendrick in less than two years. After going from team to team from late '98 through 2000 with little to no success, Craven was tapped to compete in The Tide Ride for Cal Wells in 2001, replacing Scott Pruett. Craven was hot and cold in '01 with good runs here and there but nothing ever solid from week to week. Then, the day in question happened. A great car, one of the best on that Monday, and holding off Dale Jarrett in the process, Craven had more than earned his first win after years of bad luck and misfortune. An amazing day, no doubt about it. 34. JohnG posted: 01.02.2021 - 1:18 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @Webmaster I think there is a typo in the race information, it says the race was on a Monday. 35. RaceFanX posted: 01.02.2021 - 1:31 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @33 It actually was held on a Monday. The race was rained out on Sunday and they had to go for it instead on the next day. Comment 3 mentioned this as did several others. No doubt running on a Monday is why a lot of NASCAR fans had this one in their tape collections pre-YouTube. 36.
