Nascar considered going ahead and running the race until realizing the practical and emotional difficulties involved. So the race was scheduled for the Friday after Thanksgiving. There was much concern about the weather, since it often snows in NH before Thanksgiving. One of the reasons a Friday was chosen for race day was to leave Saturday through Monday as makeup days in case of snow. But there was no snow: the race took place on a perfect balmy fall day with high temps in the 50s. 3. Gordon moves into Robby's lane, and Robby has no time to react. Both touch, and Gordon gets loose. Under caution, Jeff Gordon retaliates and bumps Robby a little. Gordon is sent to the Sin Bin for a lap, and Robby wins. 5. Brett posted: 02.25.2005 - 10:48 am Rate this comment: (2) (0) Just a racing deal, kids. :) 6. Since this race was supposed to be run in September, and Eel River Racing had ceased, Rick Mast's starting spot was not filled, which surprised me. I thought they would've moved the next car in owner points into the field. 12. smoke20ri posted: 04.03.2006 - 4:11 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) I remember Robby and Richard Childress donating their winnings to the 9/11 victims, similar to Kyle Busch and Rick Hendrick for the flood victims. 13. He just drilled Gordon's rear bumper. It was obvious watching the race that he did it intentionally. In 2004, in the same race, Greg Biffle had spun him out, but Robby had to retaliate, taking out two chase contenders. And in 2005, again in the same race, Robby threw his helmet at Michael Waltrip after Waltrip had spun him out. What a donkey. 16. Steve posted: 01.06.2007 - 1:56 am Rate this comment: (1) (1) biffle 16, I think you dislike Robby Gordon so much because Robby has better car control than Greg Biffle. Tony Stewart and Ryan Newman are probably the only drivers who could hold a candle to Robby in that department. You say "Robby had to retalliate, taking out two chase contenders". Biffle had been trying for over a year to spin Robby Gordon out! At Michigan in August of 2003, he bump-drafted Gordon on the backstretch, and turned to the left, nearly spinning the #31 Chevy. But Robby didn't let it happen; roles reversed, the 16 car would have crashed into the wall. Then in the February Busch race in 2004, Biffle tried twice to spin him out, by bump-drafting Robby in the tri-oval, and then a few laps later going into Turn 1. He finally pulled it off in September 2004, with a cheap shot going into a slow, flat corner. Robby is no idiot. He's one of the best all-around American racers today. I have yet to see Biffle fly around Indy at 225+ mph in a 1700 pound IndyCar and nearly win the Indianapolis 500, or attempt to be an owner/driver. 20. biffle16 posted: 01.13.2007 - 2:29 pm Rate this comment: (3) (3) I have yet to see Robby Gordon win a championship in any series. 21. They would move to some team driven by Jimmie Johnson..haha Last time a track besides Homestead hosted the season finale as of 2009 Last top 10's for Robert Pressley and Brett Bodine Last race Brett Bodine had the Ralph's sponsorship Last race Robert Yates had the familliar Texaco star on the hood. They changed the logo for 2002 Last start for Jimmy Spencer driving for Travis Carter. I was rather dissapointed that (b) didn't happen. Who would have made the field in the case of (a), anyway? I'm guessing it would have been #13 - Hermie Sadler? 36. (Sunset @ 4:16 PM ET, and Daylight Decease @ 4:46 PM ET), so they had to squeeze in some time. 37. martin-n-rusty posted: 11.01.2010 - 9:46 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) I would probably think at that time, a 43rd car was not prepared to take the trip. 38. Gordon 1241 Stewart -87 Marlin -94 Rudd -110 Jarrett -130 With the Chase Sterling Marlin 2358 Tony Stewart -6 Jeff Burton -6 Jeff Gordon -12 Bobby Labonte -41 Other notable facts the wildcards would have been Jeff Burton and despite not racing a cup race since Bristol Steve Park. So Park would have received the wildcard but would not have raced a single chase race therefore it would have technially been an 11 man Chase. The next closest driver eligible for the wildcard would hae been Ward Burton so it is likely that NASCAR would have awarded him the wildcard but if I were Park I would have cried foul because 12th pays a lot more than 20 something which is where he would have finished! Also Burton woul have went into New Hampshire with a 10 point lead over Marlin and 12 over Stawart. That means he would have went from worst to first in the Chase b/c he was actually the second wildcard behind Park. Also w/o a Chase Burton would have been 10th in points!! I am doing this for every season of NASCAR! Lee Petty would have beat Bob Flock for the 1949 title and we may have never even heard of Red Byron because he wouldn't have been Champion! 47. Stricklin didn't run as he was released from the #90 team in Sept/Oct and took the sponsor with him. Newman wouldn't have run because it would've been his 8th start of the year and per the rules would've taken his rookie status for 2002 away. The #30 didn't run because it wasn't originally part of their schedule. But, all of that is a moot point as NASCAR simply lined up with the top 43 in points as of 9/8/01, the 3 cars listed as DNQs weren't at the track. I'm guessing that they were on the original entry list before the race was rescheduled 50. You can't just straight up swap a points system based on their finishing positions for a given season, because a driver will race differently in a 26-race season than they would a 36-race season. There are chances you can take in getting into the Chase, whereas you couldn't do that with the old system. The newold points arguments are completely null and void. 54. I'm not sure why they were set against filling the full field but this is why the 27's spot wasn't awarded to another team. â?¢ Finally, there were three drivers/teams featured on the original entry list that did not make the cut, when NASCAR determined the field based on owner points and total race attempts, and they were as follows: #13 - Hermie Sadler #89 - Morgan Shepherd #98 - Kenny Wallace (owner: George Debidart, cc: Gere Kennon) Wallace was slated to run only this race in a car fielded by his BGN team, but of course the Steve Park injury meant that Kenny finished out the year in the #1 car instead, and would have driven it here even back in September. 71. In the caution that had the last pit stops, Robby Gordon not only tried to break the gentlemen's agreement (for safety) by passing Jeff Gordon while he slowed down coming to take the yellow flag... but he then ran into Jeff's rear on the back straight while behind the pace car. Apparently Robby either had plans to bring his own chassis to Darlington or actually did, which obviously T'd off the McClures. Robby drove the car at Darlington but after that the brief relationship was over. His incident with Gordon, Jeff in this race was not as described way up top. Robby drove way in over his head into 3 and had 3/4 of the car on the apron trying to pass Jeff. No way that was going to work out cleanly.
