I really remember thinking that day that everyone at seasons end would be asking him about his stellar 3rd at atlanta and about how they want to build on that for 2003. I didn't know that he would go on a tear after that! 3. It is still right up near the top, though. And yes, he did have the Hula girl in the cockpit of the No. 20 Pontiac. Made for some entertaining in-car video when he would be racing through the 24-degree turns. Bill picked up his fifth and final pole at AMS but got wrapped up in a multicar accident near the end and crashed hard into the inside wall on the backstretch. He had a pretty dismal season there, finishing 35th and 33rd. Hits kept on coming with a blown motor and a 39th in March '03, but he did record a fourth that fall, the penultimate top-five finish of his career. In his last Atlanta race for Rick Hendrick, Jerry Nadeau had an abysmal 30th-place finish. In three of his prior four races there in the 25, he picked up his only career win in November 2000, came within a half a lap of winning a year later before running dry on gas and falling to fourth, and was part of the thrilling late-race battle in March 2001 before recording a third. His first start there for Rick, he popped a motor and finished 42nd. Over those first four races in the 25, he led 269 laps. Last of Ward Burton's seven Atlanta top-tens. Ricky Craven's only AMS finish better than 12th. In her only Cup start at the track where she recorded perhaps the highlight of her career (winning the pole for the '94 Busch Light 300), Shawna Robinson records a 34th, equaling her best non-Daytona finish which she set in her debut at Michigan the year before. 9. BlackChevy14 posted: 10.02.2013 - 7:31 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Another note, this was the final AMS victory for Pontiac. Fireball Roberts drove one to victory in the 1963 Rebel 300, the inaugural event at Atlanta. Bobby Johns, Bob Burdick, and David Pearson added wins in the next four trips, giving Pontiac a four-of-five to open the track (only Fred Lorenzen's July 1961 Festival 250 win in a Ford breaking the stranglehold). Pontiac then endured a massive drought, before Rusty Wallace claimed the 1988 season finale (and came close to denying Georgia's Bill Elliott his only Winston Cup title). Wallace would win the finale again in 1993 (in another close-but-not-close-enough triumph, though Dale Earnhardt had a much more comfortable edge than Bill), his 31st-career win, at the time all in a Pontiac, and his last victory for the brand as Penske swapped to Ford and later Dodge to close out his Hall of Fame career. Finally, Bobby Labonte claimed four of his six AMS wins in a Grand Prix, bookended by the '96 finale in the last race for Gibbs' original stint with Chevy and the 2003 win in the first AMS race of their return to the make. 10. It was also the first 500 mile race win of Stewart's career. Ironically, a slow pit stop from the world champion #17 crew cost Kenseth a shot at the win on the final round of pit stops. 11. mister83 posted: 07.09.2015 - 4:04 pm Rate this comment: (3) (7) Wow, Buckshit Jones actually finished 12th. 12. This is exactly the problem with websites like this, and whether or not the post is made anonymously does not make it less valid when the point being made is correct. You yourself even use the word "badmouth," which just goes to show that you have absolutely no point to make. 21. If you can't handle it, you should probably get off the internet." If you feel the need to make a very NOT innocent joke about any human being, YOU need to get off the internet and find a solution to problems you have because you have some kind of need to throw cuss words around when there is NO reason in the world to justify that on this forum. We need a login system so that people who adulterate this forum like you all can be banned easily. 27. This is a three-way discussion. 28. mister83 posted: 07.13.2015 - 5:40 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Doug here has obviously never been to websites like YouTube, Yahoo, Facebook, and Twitter. If you're offended by what I said, then I can't wait to see your reaction from some of the comments on those websites. It's called the internet. If you can't handle things like "cuss words" (who even says that anyway?) then you need to get off. It's that simple. 29. I want to apologize to Doug and the rest of the community for basically starting this whole thing, as I was being a complete ass and overreacted. I stayed away from this thread for a few days hoping it would blow over, but I feel it's time for me to man up and accept responsibility. This might be why we've lost our respected and insightful posters on this website; because of childish bickering. I hope we can move on and forgive and forget. Back to the actual race topic, I will always remember Mark Martin driving his ass off from 39th to actually scoring a top-10. 32. 2002 Sponsor Updates posted: 08.30.2015 - 5:40 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Sponsor updates: #4 Kodak MAX Film #55 Schneider Electric/Square D #71 Warranty Gold/NationsRent #11 Hooters/Wells Fargo/Timberland Pro #10 Valvoline Maxlife #41 Target/Energizer #45 Sprint PCS #97 Rubbermaid/Sharpie #43 Cheerios/Betty Crocker 33. Kyle Petty held onto the lead lap all day and finished 15th, which is about where he ran throughout the race. John Andretti didn't run quite as well, but was running 1 lap down in the top 25 before crashing late. When that caution came out, Buckshot Jones was able to get his lap back and finished 12th. All in all, it was a solid effort by the whole Petty organization. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
