I was already an Earnhardt fan and it was so cool to watch my first race end w/ Dale Jr. in Victory Lane, and Michael Waltrip finishing 2nd!!!! It was an awesome way for me watching my first ever NASCAR race. 2. Sterling did push Kenny a little bit down, but if this was Jr., no penalty would've been thrown. 13. UnderdogFan89 posted: 05.11.2015 - 3:49 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Regarding Dick Trickle, this was actually not a quality ride. Trickle had been hired by Evernham to be their test driver, and they started a new team in order to get more tests, since at the time you were limited to a certain number of tests per car. NASCAR didn't like this and told Evernham that in order for them to test at tracks with this "new team", they would at least have to make an attempt at a race. So Evernham and crew slapped together a test car, brought it here, and attempted to make the race, never intending to actually qualify. In that sense, then, this car was worse quality, not better. The #91 would eventually make two legitimate starts toward the end of the year with Hank Parker at Rockingham and Casey Atwood at Homestead. 24. Happy's return probably wasn't to his liking as he was collected in the Big One, ruining any hope of a good finish. As of 2018 he's made more than 600 consecutive NASCAR starts since this one without missing a race. 27. I just watched this race and Kenny Wallace clearly had position on Sterling Marlin coming into the tri-oval with one lap to go when he moved into 5th place. Upon closer look, Kyle Petty (who was 7th at the start/finish line with one lap to go) clearly drives below the yellow line a few seconds later to pass Sterling Marlin. It's pretty obvious Kyle drove himself down there, was not forced at all but his finish stood and no call was ever made. While I'm a both Kenny & Kyle fan, reasons like this is why I quit watching for years with unfair judgement calls from the not-so qualified people in race control determine the finishes of these races. 28.
