All-in-all, though, throwing trash is a very dangerous thing. Look at Talladega 2004 for an example. 3. Not even his teammate, Earnhardt, could've gotten by him. 5. He had 'em covered. 6. MegaRacer posted: 10.03.2005 - 7:26 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) My fave memory was, after being involved in the Big One, Dale Jarrett walked a mile or so back to the pits. Just as he gets there, an ambulance pulls up to offer him a ride to the infield care center. DJ refused having already walked that far! 7. brandon posted: 02.20.2006 - 8:19 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) johnny benson broke his ribs for the secone time in 2 months during a lap 9 crash 8. brandon posted: 03.12.2006 - 4:18 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) the emts for this event were terrible. Nemechek took one of the hardest hits I've ever seen in that one but he was fine, and DJ walked back from Turn 1 instead of taking the ambulance ride. 17. He said something like " Yeah, we could have made it 4 wide there at the end bu, I knew we would have all wrecked." I think Jimmy pushed Sterling to 3rd from like 20th with 3-4 laps to go 19. Jarrett opted walking to the care center and back to his pit. * Dale Earnhardt Jr. got talked into trying to win the race by the Eurys when they convinced him to try and go after the win and beat his teammate Michael Waltrip however Junior had no help from anyone, in fact I don't think anyone was expecting him to pull off the move he did. 31. ericthenau posted: 03.25.2012 - 4:00 pm Rate this comment: (1) (1) RaceFanX, Geoffrey Bodine started the 2011 Coke Zero 400 Powered by Coca-Cola, so this race is now the 2nd to last race that Geoffrey Bodine was in at Daytona. Also, Danica Patrick, a female driver, started the 2012 Daytona 500 (and finished 38th), so this race is not the last race with at least one female driver in the field anymore. 32. Tony was able to get the junk heap repaired but still finished 38th, he had climbed to 5th in the NASCAR top 10 at the time and he'd still roll to the title after finishing poorly at Daytona. * This was the second Daytona event done by FOX at the time since the 2001 Daytona 500 where Mikey wins again and then in 2003, Michael won the rain-shortened Daytona 500. Michael would win the FOX Daytona races from 2001-2003. 37. Anonymous posted: 08.23.2014 - 9:38 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Mikey acknowledged him wrecking Benson while in victory lane. Corey posted: 04.16.2016 - 8:45 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) At the time NASCAR did not have the GWC rule in place for the cup series and races ended at the advertised distance. Starting around 1998, the got into the habit of red-flagging a race should a caution come out with a handful of laps to go. Fans obviously came to expect this any time a caution came out near the end. The issue here is that they took the caution with three to go (Lap 158 of 160) and the cars still raced back to the line. Now you have a situation where the cars have to slow, pace car picks them up, and stops them all before the get back to the pits. After you lift the red flag, you now have to open the pits for everyone and give the one to go signal at the same time as the come to the line to start Lap 159. Most they would have gotten was a 1 lap dash. Possible but, that's what they had in the 1997 running, which ended with a big crash in turn 3. 43. I know this DID happen at a July Daytona race around this time. It was either this race or '03... 44. This was the penultimate top-5 of his career for the 1994 Pepsi 400 winner. 45. rw posted: 02.08.2018 - 1:46 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Rusty could have won this race if they had a GWC. 46. Kentucky Wildcat posted: 02.08.2018 - 7:35 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) In response to "Rusty could have won this race if they had a GWC" It would have been cool to see Rusty win one at Daytona but believe his races meant to win were both the 1999 races. O'l Mikey would've had to have a issue for anyone to get around him. His car was untouchable in this race. However I would've loved to have seen what Mr. Excitement could've done on the restart from the 4th position 47.
