The race started at 12:30 p.m. and it was so scary what happened on the first lap. Rusty Wallace shoved Steve Park into the wall and then Dale Jr. had no where to go and both went into the infield. Since the grass was wet, Steve hit the guardrail and barrel rolled several times. It was scary for both teammates. Thankfully both were ok. Then the rain came and the race was stopped for a total of 3 hrs. The race ended at 8:00 P.M. 2. What a scary crash. 3. HomeDepot20TS posted: 06.05.2005 - 1:00 pm Rate this comment: (2) (0) Two words: Awesome Still. 4. It's always scary to see guys that have gotten hurt once before have a scary wreck again (Ernie Irvan had a couple more after his bad wreck, I think). 5. Just an unfortunate, but spectacular crash. You'd think that the track would have done away with the highway-style barriers after Davey Allison's scary crash some 10 years earlier. With some great work by the Bud crew, Jr. eventually saw more track time. When he returned to the track, there was a completely new front bumper, which was black without stickers and the familiar colors, but with race tape "DMP" was placed on the bumper. Later it was revealed that it stood for Dirty Mo Posse, which is Jr.'s name for his pals. This race was eventually called because of darkness. The real problem during the day was not just the rains, but the fact that the track was leaking rain water. 8. Brock posted: 01.18.2007 - 6:46 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) The all-day Pocono race! That was fun. 9. myself posted: 02.21.2007 - 6:10 pm Rate this comment: (1) (3) Glad they were uninjured, but you gotta love it when DEI cars, especially one carrying an Earnhardt, are in the same wreck! :D 10. As a Bill Elliott fan I was so happy my brother was there, so maybe he could take pictures of Bill's car in Victory Lane! When Bill won, i jumped up and down screaming, Awesome Bill from Dawsonville! When my brother got home, I asked him if he went to Victory Lane, "No" he said knowing I was going to ask, "Our Uncle left with 15 to go to beat traffic," man was I pissed! 11. He actually led for aboutan hour because everyone else pitted and he stayed out right before a rain delay. 12. As a kid who grew up watching AWESOME BILL struggle in doing his own deal it was AWESOME to see AWESOME BILL successful again!! What a great win! 14. This was the race in which Ryan Newman's transmission was configured to run in 3rd gear for the whole race. His tach hit 9400 to 9500 RPM! It was such a cool sound. The TNT guys coulnd't believe how that engine could run with such stress. Can anybody find a video clip of that? I had the live broadcast, but I think I taped over that race. 16. Steve posted: 12.05.2008 - 1:22 am Rate this comment: (1) (0) I have figured out the right gear ratios to use in EA Sports' NASCAR 06 (2005 season) game to replicate (or come really close to doing so) the engine pitch of Newman's car in this race. 1st gear: 3.30 2nd: 1.90 3rd: 1.05 4th: irrelevant (you won't need it!) Rear end gear: 3.50 (EA Sports standard) Get ready to hear a scream! 17. One heck of a wreck happened in the beginning in the race between Park and Earnhardt Jr. 18. 18fan posted: 06.15.2010 - 8:40 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Surprised nobody has mentioned Bill Elliott's last pole to date and likely ever. 19. Lap 1 crash with Steve Park and Dale Jr., which left the track workers repairing the barriers for about an hour. Lap 26 was the 2.5 hour rain delay - just as the cars pulled onto pit lane for the red flag, Jr's beat up #8 pulls out of the garage area... just thinking about the crowd's roar gives me chills to this day (and I'm not a Jr. fan lol) They went back to green, and after a couple more yellows, they decided to cut the race short 25 laps. It was the only time I've ever been to a race (16 races total) that we got back to the hotel at night time. 20. lvracer8 posted: 10.15.2010 - 8:05 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) I don't see how concrete walls would have been better. The armco at least gave, and in 2002 there weren't any SAFER Barriers. If the wall was concrete Park probably would have been injured again. 21. And the 2005 Busch Talladega race was the longest day. 25. Park had of lots of savage crashes and sometimes he would not be doing anything at all, and wreck minding his own business. 26. Not sure if he even had a backup car to pull out or if he fixed the one he crashed. 30.
