Roush hasn't made him a priority. Martin, Biffle, Kenseth, and Edwards have been driving Roush Busch cars, but not McMurray. 13. Then there was the 10 car pileup on the restart that started when Todd Bodine went 3 wide in the dogleg and clipped the wet grass. 22. jp posted: 06.05.2009 - 12:05 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) This is the first race that I ever remember watching. The saves the guy has made over the span of his career are jaw-dropping... there are several of them, but the one at Las Vegas in '09 comes to mind right away. This was a bloody awesome result! Such a surprise, and I've been a supporter of his ever since. Another highlight was Bill Elliott's Dodge Viper paint scheme with the lime green eyed headlights... cool scheme, I thought, but he wrecked it in turn 2. 26. awesomegordonfan posted: 10.27.2010 - 3:46 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) And another Charlotte win, basically 8 years to the day! He tries to divebomb the dogleg through wet grass and takes out 10 cars. Now BODINE is a man who lived off his name along with Brett. Bodine is a hack and a half. 32. kidracer posted: 12.30.2013 - 1:29 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Also Jason Hedlesky is now Carl Edwards spotter! 33. Evan posted: 12.30.2013 - 10:34 pm Rate this comment: (2) (1) My father who does not follow NASCAR gave the perfect quote for this event. Back then, I said "Jamie McMurray won the race" and my dad goes "Who's he?!" and I go, "Good question, I don't know either". But regardless it was good win for Jamie which started his career off with a bang, this car was basically the same car that Sterling won with at Charlotte in 2001 with a few alterations. This brings up the old question of, "Is It the Car or is It the Driver?" I don't think that is always the case, you have to have a good racecar but you have to have capable driver behind the wheel other. In my mind, MacMurray got the opportunity because he was a good race car driver, and Sterling Marlin's team was driving towards their their first championship til Marlin got hurt so this win proves both, MacMurray's talent and the team's excellent speedway program at the time. 35. Bob posted: 08.05.2014 - 10:42 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) I don't think it was just the car (which was set up for Marlin). Charlotte is McMurray's best track besides the plate races and maybe Bristol. He won this race, finished second in the 2010 600, won the 2010 fall race, and most recently won the All Star Race this year. 36. mister83 posted: 07.15.2015 - 2:26 pm Rate this comment: (1) (2) I believe that this race is the single biggest upset in NASCAR history. Some people make an argument for Derrike Cope or Trevor Bayne in their Daytona 500 wins, but lets face it, both of those drivers completely lucked into their wins. Cope only won because Earnhardt blew a tire on the last lap and Bayne's win came with the two-car tandems, the most flukish type of racing EVER. McMurray on the other hand raced with the leaders all race long, led the most laps, and held off Bobby Labonte, one of the best ever at Charlotte, to win. That is what gets this to be the biggest upset in history, and in my opinion the only other race that rivals it is Harvick's win at Atlanta in 2001. 37. After this race, McMurray put together consecutive Busch finishes of 3rd, 1st, and 1st for Clarence Brewer. 45. What seems even more impossible is that Jamie Mac did it (and lead the most laps on a cookie cutter), and I'm saying this as a Mac fan. It's a sign of how naturally talented McMurray was, but the moment he started to think about stuff, he underperformed. Ignorance was bliss for him. He parallels Dale Jr. in that sense-- the less he thought about stuff and the more he just enjoyed himself, the better he ran. When McMurray went to Roush and Dale Jr went to Hendrick, they thought themselves into failure. The best drivers are the ones who don't give a damn-- did Dale Earnhardt, Tony Stewart or the Busch brothers ever care if they made a mistake or burned a bridge? People tend to focus on how good at driving a car a guy is, but overlook how he is affected by the pressure of the moment. Ricky Stenhouse Jr in his rookie Nationwide season in 2010 is another example--pressure caused him to crash every week, thus the pressure hid the fact that he was actually very skilled. He was lucky to keep his job, but then truly earned it after he got over his loss of confidence. 46. He was fastest in practice and during qualifying Nadeau unexpectedly had the blue Intrepid on the provisional pole only for qualifying to be rained out after only 20 cars posted a time. Nadeau had to start 39th as a result but still came up through the field to finish 13th, matching his career best at Lowe's Motor Speedway. This was his last race at Charlotte. 47. Ganassi responded, "It's one thing and one thing only. You know, all these guys today are fast, and the kid's got great communication skills, but most of all, he's got a good heart." ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
