A shame, as he had came up through the field from 6th in a hurry to take the lead, and he had a great car, but I guess we wouldn't know if he would've won. Awesome runs for Jerry Nadeau, Jeff Green, and Todd Bodine. 10. Clayton posted: 03.30.2008 - 12:05 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Yeah, Bill and Elliott Sadler both had something go wrong! Awesome Bill Would have kicked the hell out of the field that day! 11. I Love Japan posted: 04.16.2011 - 4:43 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) I think Sadler would have won were it not for his wreck. He was strong on this day. 12. Shame he, Elliott and Labonte retired early in this race. Think Stewart had a good car as well until his engine blew. 15. kidracer posted: 03.16.2014 - 3:47 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Scary situation when Jimmy Spencer and Ricky Rudd stop at the Quad-Oval and all the cars zoom by him. Jeremy Mayfield spun out to avoid them and make slight contact with the wall. Also I think this was the race where Racing Back to the line was finally deemed dangerous and the Gentleman's agreement went out the window when Kenseth passed Gordon under caution and NASCAR gave it back to Gordon. 16. joey2448 posted: 04.02.2014 - 5:03 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Post #1 -- Actually, this race was two weeks after the legendary Darlington finish. Bristol was the week before. And post #15 -- The final straw that got NASCAR to get rid of racing back to the line was the fall race at New Hampshire. Dale Jarrett got wrecked in that race, and whilst sitting in the middle of the racetrack off turn four, several drivers nearly clobbered him trying to race back to the line. But this race was one of a few in 2003 where racing back to the line became a controversial issue. The Sonoma race was another one, when Robby Gordon raced and passed his teammate Kevin Harvick coming back to take the caution flag. 17. mister83 posted: 07.17.2015 - 11:33 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) First of eight wins in 2003 for Rocketman. You would think watching him those first two years of his career that he would be the one to get six championships and be a future Hall of Famer rather than Jimmie Johnson. Ever since then Newman has never had any more than two wins in a single season. 18. That 6th caution was a mess, Jimmy Spencer bounced off of Tony Stewart coming out of turn 4 and finally spun out by the start-finish line. Cars went every which way to avoid the Sirius Dodge, with several picking up nose damage from flying through the grass at high speeds, including Terry Labonte. Ricky Rudd was the only one to spin as a result of his tangle with the turf, and slid right up in front of Sterling Marlin. Marlin had to basically stop dead on the track with cars coming around his outside at 150+ mph and still just barely tagged Rudd's car. 21. After qualifying, x-rays showed that he had two cracked ribs, so the decision was made for Petty to sit out of Sunday's race and for Christian Fittipaldi to drive instead. The three drivers who competed for that incredible Darlington win (Ricky Craven and Kurt Busch, with Dave Blaney just behind) all ran terribly in this race. Blaney and Craven ran towards the back throughout much of this race, while Kurt Busch ran so poorly that he lost a lap on two different occasions before moving back up to 9th at the finish. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
