Dale Jr. dominated all day long until Craven had a flat tire and drove him up the track. It was still good for him to finish 3rd. Even though Jeffy pulled a cheapshot on Bobby to win, it was a fun race. 3. Heather posted: 02.08.2005 - 6:50 pm Rate this comment: (1) (2) Whatever, Jake. Both Earnhardt Jr. & Gordon dominated all day. But it was Bobby & Jeff at the end to battle it out for the win. The better car ended up in Victory Lane. 4. Nonetheless what a drive! 5. Antony posted: 07.11.2007 - 4:32 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) 1st ever top 10 for BAM Racing. 6. The first repeat winner would be Kurt Busch the following weekend in California. 9. RaceFanX posted: 12.25.2008 - 9:09 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Ken Schreader's first top-10 in over a year 10. If someone is slower than you and they block your line then bump their slow car out of the way. Yes i am a Gordon fan and proud of it. Bobby Labonte wasn't even mad after the race. I just hate when people get upset over a bump and run. It's a short track too! THE BUMP AND RUN IS NOT AS CHEAPSHOT! Anyone says it is just doesn't like Gordon or just doesn't make any sense at all. 11. Ryan posted: 03.29.2009 - 11:16 am Rate this comment: (1) (0) I was at this race. If Craven doesn't run Dale Jr. up the track Earnhardt had this race for an easy win. Just had some bad luck. 12. During those five races, he went from 15th in points all the way to fourth. 20. Rainbow Warrior posted: 09.04.2016 - 7:54 am Rate this comment: (0) (1) What a surprise. Carrot Top did a promotional thing for AT&T and was on the hood of Kenny Schrader's car. 100 laps in, the Mongo vs. Carrot Top battled ensued between Jimmy Spencer and Schrader for 6th. "My money is on Mongo...he's much better looking than that. (referring to carrot top)" These guys didn't hold back! How things have changed! 24. Anonermoust posted: 01.30.2019 - 2:26 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Also, it came as no surprise to me seeing Kenny Wallace do well in this race. Martinsville was one of his best tracks, especially after his performance in the 1999 Fall race here. Kenny also ran very well and finished in the top 10 in Bristol a few weeks before this race. Schrader and Spencer shined as well. Kenny ran inside the top 10 all day long, and I don't think he left it once. Okay, he'd fallen to 12th at one point, but he was very solid all day. He didn't quite have the finishes to show for during this season, but he was stout on the shorter tracks in 2003. Speaking of not having the finishes to show for good runs, Spencer is a prime example of that. In Bristol Spring race, he'd led nearly a third of the race. He was trapped 2 laps down when the caution came out during his pitstop there. In this race, the dragged a catch can down pit road, and went from 6th to 27th on a restart with 350 laps left. He never really recovered from it. I felt that he had the best car in the field in both races. Bobby drove from 39th to the lead but ultimately wound up losing to Big Daddy. Great race and good broadcast by FOX. 25. He essentially said that since disqualifying his illegal car was an f off deal, they will do just that and won't attend the next race. 26. rm posted: 03.29.2020 - 5:31 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Even though there were 11 cautions, this was pretty much as clean a Martinsville race as you can get until the end. Matt Kenseth's spin coming out of turn 4 inside of 5 laps to go sent up a huge smokescreen and stacked cars up coming onto the frontstretch. No caution waved, though, and when Kenseth tried to get going again he hit Kurt Busch, resulting in Busch eventually spinning himself down in turn 2 and officially drawing the caution. Jeff Burton, Elliott Sadler and Tony Stewart were thrown into a 3-wide battle for 4th place in the confusion, with Burton and Sadler coming out ahead of Stewart - much to Stewart's chagrin. Stewart kept bumping Sadler as the field took the yellow and checkered flags, apparently blaming Sadler for his flat tire and damaged car. A testament to the mostly-clean racing: Todd Bodine was the last car running at just 8 laps down, a statistical oddity for that era of Martinsville racing. For example, in the fall race there were 6 drivers who were still running with fewer laps completed than what Bodine had here. 27. Right after he pitted, the caution came out, trapping him 2 laps down. He earned both of those laps back, avoided going a lap down again during the last long green flag run*, and drove back up to a solid 12th-place finish. *About 6 or 8 cars got back on the lead lap during the multiple caution flags between lap 280 and 350. Of those, nearly all went back a lap down during the green flag run between lap 355 and 435. Only Kenny Wallace and Ricky Rudd got their lap back and stayed on the lead lap until the finish. 28. Rich posted: 11.27.2020 - 2:53 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) After beginning 2003 with high hopes with a new team and everything else, Elliott Sadler's season would not be this good again as he would not record another top five finish after this strong 5th place effort at a track where he had little to no success at. '03 for Elliott and the #38 team would fall off a cliff after this with just four top ten finishes post Martinsville, three of which were 9th place finishes. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
