Should we feel sorry for him because he can't race anymore, or happy because he's around for us to feel sorry for? 2. He dueled Rusty and Bobby near the end of this race with some very daring moves under each of these guys. This was the race that really proved me to that Kurt is one of the rare talents out there that's willing to put the car somewhere it really isn't meant to be. Kinda like the Intimadator was known to do. I've been to every Cali race since 2000(expect 2001) and this to me was probably the raciest of any of them I've been to. 4. Do we want someone on the track, impaired, the left side of their body permanently numbed, judgment and responses impaired? He has nothing to prove and nothing to gain. One more impact with even half the force and he could just be another statistic in a sport that has been so cruel. 5. myself posted: 02.21.2007 - 7:54 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) Amazing! Michael Waltrip should be given some type of medal for managing to be in the top 10 in points 10 races into a season! 6. biffle16 posted: 02.24.2007 - 2:17 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Probably John Andretti's last Cup Top Ten. :( 7. Fitting for the promotion, the climax of the franchise's previous movie, Terminator 2: Judgement Day, was filmed at the Kaiser Steel Mill which was demolished so the California Speedway could be built on its property (The track's watertower is actually from the steel mill) Jamie McMurray had a Terminator 3 paint job on his car during the race and actually ran quite well with Arnie on the hood, leading 41 laps in root to a 5th place finish. Maybe promoting that movie was a good luck charm, Michael Waltrip also ran a T3 paint job in the Busch and scored an impressive 2nd 8. Nice deal. 9. Mr. Big posted: 05.18.2008 - 9:05 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Tony Stewart completely dominated the first 115 laps, then his engine blew. That's the total I finished at for that season. Going to 3 Cup races in 2003 and 2009 are my most in a season. Been to at least 2 every year since 2002 thru 2011. Been to the shortened Cali race this year. that appears to be the only Cup race for me this year. :( Also, I noticed in my post from 6 years ago, that I said "expect" when I meant to say "except." Oops. 15. Their weekend didn't get much better though as Raines finished outside the top 30, having run out of fuel while under green-flag conditions. Steve Park and Ryan Newman's lap 1 tangle is well-known, and Jack Sprague joined the pair as crash victims shortly thereafter. With Derrike Cope being mentioned by the booth as being pushed to the garage without power, that meant there were 4 cars behind the wall before lap 10. That situation wasn't too surprising when it happened at Bristol and Talladega in the weeks prior to this race, but it's pretty unusual for Fontana. 28. I'd consider it worse, considering how many cars were taken out. 30. It happened at Las Vegas, Talladega, and here at Fontana. All 3 times, he lost what would have been a top 10 finish, but he was able to come across the line and complete the full distance in each race. 31. Mile501 posted: 09.22.2020 - 1:13 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) As a follow-up to my previous comment, in the next race at Richmond, FX showed a graphic with calculations of how many positions and points Johnson had lost in those 3 last-lap (or next-to-last-lap) incidents. According to their math, Johnson lost 89 points. Johnson would ultimately finish 90 points behind Matt Kenseth for the 2003 championship (although, Kenseth surely would have done some things differently late in the season had his point lead been smaller). 32.
