It awesome when Kevin was doing the burnouts and popped a tire. Harvick is awesome!!!! He's also the best as burnouts, there's no doubt about that. 2. Firehawk posted: 03.20.2006 - 12:45 am Rate this comment: (0) (1) Again another deserving driver is robbed of a sure win at Indy. The 2003 edition was Jamie McMurray's to lose. He had run down Tony Stewart and held back everyone else with ease. Unfortunately he was a victim of circumstance, as several tail end of the lead lap cars held up the Texaco Dodge, opening the door for Kevin Harvick to grab the lead on a late race restart. McMurray would of had a chance to get Harvick back, but was intentionally held up by Harvick's teammate Robby Gordon, allowing "the California Kid" to take the win. 8. Do whatever it takes to WIN. 9. Evan posted: 07.10.2006 - 2:19 am Rate this comment: (0) (1) Matt Kenseth shoulda won this race, he was already the champion at this point after all. 10. Tony had bad luck that really ruined him in the pits. Noone can do a burnout like he did that day. Jimmie tried last year but couldnt quite get it done. 14. kyle posted: 07.29.2007 - 1:48 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) car was legal. remember its childress, who has a great history at this track and harvick ran good in '01 and '02. he had the fastest car all weekend and sorry that happens sometimes. stfu. 15. "I think harvick is a good driver but he is a complete jerk! All kinds of bad thoughts and dirty words come to my mind when I think of him. Go Mark Martin! Sunoco | 03.08.06 - 2:36 pm" Doesnt like Harvick, does like Martin, yet it was almost a year before the 2007 Daytona 500. Also, the name "Sunoco" is rather ironic, considering the aquabble between Sunoco and Shell/Pennzoil following Daytona. 17. That put him 5th on the all-time list, and he has since only dropped to 8th among drivers with the most consecutive starts. 20. If he would've been 0.001 seconds faster, he would've made the race. 27. rm posted: 03.31.2020 - 12:21 am Rate this comment: (2) (0) This race was a last-ditch effort for a now Hooters-less Brett Bodine team, running a unique fan-funded "Brick Car," but as mentioned above he missed the show by the slimmest of margins. Ken Schrader was another driver with qualifying heartbreak as also mentioned above. David Reutimann was in one of two Morgan-McClure entries, but both DNQ'd. Reutimann never made a race while the series was branded as Winston Cup, finally making his series debut in 2005 and becoming full time in 2007. Provisional land looked a little different here because three cars running very limited schedules (57, 81, 91) successfully timed their way into the field. The Foyt team made a point to switch their car number to the #50 in the weeks leading up to this race so that they could have a provisional available for the Brickyard if necessary, not wanting to miss a race at Indianapolis. Sure enough, Larry Foyt crashed in qualifying and the team had to use a provisional and a backup car. A rare appearance of the #81 car, a fourth DEI entry, started with promise after the struggling John Andretti qualified 11th which put the team very safely in the show. They had to change engines on the morning of the race, though, and he never managed to drive that far back up the order before crashing out. 28. Ryan posted: 07.05.2020 - 10:39 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) That's interesting and probably is fact. In 1966, Richard Petty finished 1st in the Daytona 500 and Cale Yarborough finished 2nd. At the 1984 Firecracker, Petty beat Yarborough to win his 200th race. Same track, but different races. Also worth mentioning Jeff Gordon won the second Dover race in 1996 and in 2014. He beat the same team (Penske) and car number (2) in Rusty Wallace and Brad Keselowski, who finished 2nd respectively. Congrats to Harvick and Kenseth on their longevity and competitiveness. What's great is that both weren't Cup champions then and now both are. A 44 year old and 48 year old finish 1-2 in a crown jewel. 32. guac_is_extra_ posted: 07.08.2020 - 12:28 am Rate this comment: (1) (0) I checked all drivers with multiple wins and it is indeed a record. 33.
