It was awesome when Kevin rear-ended Jeff and shoved him into the guardrail. Kevin gets an A plus for that!!! 2. Harvick was definitely the man. Like I said earlier, if you run outta fuel by a pit entrance, don't be stupid, take the splash of fuel and go. Gordon probably would've finished in the same place anyway, he really had nothin' to lose. But when you're an idiot in a race-car like Jeff Gordon, you're gonna do idiotic things. 6. Anonymous posted: 01.16.2005 - 8:08 pm Rate this comment: (4) (0) Gordon shouldn't have been in the racing groove, however Harvick didn't need to spin him out. 7. That was sick, I guarentee you that was an anti-Dale Jr. fan, because Junior would never put a comment like that. So whoever that fan was, that was completely un-called for, that definitely was not Dale Jr., he'd never post a comment like that, only people against him would. 8. 3X3=9 Go Bill Elliott posted: 01.26.2005 - 6:20 pm Rate this comment: (3) (0) So it was right for you to bash other drivers and others cant even comment your driver? Ward Burton finished sixth here, matching his career best Cup run on a road course. Surprisingly this was Ward's best finish of the 2003 and his last top-10 run in Bill Davis' #22 that he made so famous. Ward would never finish this well in a Cup race ever again... 38. Chip Ganassi fielded an extra Target Dodge Intrepid for Pruett in both of the season's road course Cup races. The Californian road course ace joined Ganassi's new Daytona Prototype program the following season and remained there through the end of the 2015 season. 39. Unfortunately, here he continued a streak of 2 consecutive DNQs. Joe Varde's last NASCAR attempt and the only one where he was listed as an owner-driver. Scott Maxwell fails to put the Petty 43 in the show, but it preserved his undefeated 1-0 record in stock car starts. Maxwell won a CASCAR race at Mosport in the only major stock car race he took the green flag in. The weekend didn't get any better for Petty Enterprises. Kyle Petty got up on top of the styrofoam blocks coming out of the inner loop on the first lap while later Christian Fittipaldi crashed in the final turn and pretty thoroughly ruined his slick pinstriped Yankees car. Both finished many laps down. As always, it wouldn't be a Robby Gordon win without some controversy. Here, he punted Boris Said coming down the backstretch, with Said straightening his car quickly enough that it only warranted a local yellow. Said finished 39th. The in-race poll asked fans which ringer they thought would finish the highest. Said and Ron Fellows dominated the category, get 50% and 39% of the votes respectively. Instead, Scott Pruett took home the honors by finishing 2nd, with PJ Jones and Johnny Miller the next two ringers. That left the two favorites, Said and Fellows, as the two lowest finishing ringers. Just like everyone predicted, of course. I suppose Paul Menard could have technically been considered a ringer too, but he wasn't an option in the poll. 42. JSPorts posted: 03.31.2020 - 6:15 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) I'm honestly kind of surprised that the combined road course skills of Pruett, Said and Fellows (along with the equipment of Ganassi, DEI, Red Bull and others) never translated into a win for one of the ringers at the Cup level. They came close several times, but never sealed the deal. 43. Mile501 posted: 10.16.2020 - 3:39 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Two of 2003's rookies performed shockingly well in this race, even though neither of them got the finishes to show for it. After unintentionally wrecking Jeff Gordon going into the first turn of the race (which he said he "felt terrible" about on the radio), Greg Biffle led the first 23 laps and legitimately had a car that could have won the race, but got shuffled back on pit strategy and then had a penalty late in the race for missing the inner loop. Casey Mears was running 4th with less than 10 laps to go, looking really strong and hanging right with the other Target car, but drove off the track in turn 1 and ended up 32nd. Jamie McMurray did not have a great race, but did lead 1 lap during a pit cycle and ended up finishing higher than the two rookies mentioned above, even though they performed much better throughout the race. A couple of other notes: When Rusty Wallace got stuck in the gravel/mud on lap 51, about a dozen drivers quickly dove onto pit road and gained track position when the caution soon followed. To a large degree, this is what helped Robby Gordon win this race. Without this caution, someone else like Jeff Burton, Greg Biffle, or Dale Earnhardt Jr may have had a great chance to get a surprise road course win. After starting on the pole, Jeff Gordon dropped to 42nd on the first lap. He drove all the way back up to 3rd before running out of fuel and getting hit by Kevin Harvick on the last lap. He clearly had a race-winning car, if he would have had an incident-free race. Petty Enterprises had a disastrous weekend. Sportscar driver Scott Maxwell failed to qualify the #43, Kyle Petty crashed on the first lap, and Christian Fittipaldi crashed at the 1/3 point. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
