I was at a Braves game (They romped to a win) and it was probably a good thing, considering Stew's struggles and Newman winning AGAIN. Hate I missed the Harvick/Rudd deal live. "Yeah I tell you what. GM Goodwrench car was good tonight. Ricky Rudd took a goddamn cheap shot at us. If he's gonna take a cheap shot, he's gonna get one back. I promise you that." 2. You said it about Kyle Busch, Jack Sprague, and Kevin Harvick. Why are you interested in NA$CAR? (You're making it look like the National Asshole Stock Car Auto Racers.) 4. I'll tell you why, its because this race sucked like most in 03 did. Where were all the bowtie boys??? this is the CHEVY rock n roll 400. seeing newman wins makes me sick everytime. That is not a pair of dudes you want to be messing with. It came pretty close to happening anyway, but too many officials in the way and Yappy had to get his crew to do his dirty work for him. 11. luigistarted06 posted: 01.17.2010 - 1:34 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) On another note, Mike Skinner won what is likely his final pole for a cup car in this race. Considering what happened to the #01 team in the spring at Richmond, it was really an all around great story. And for Mike it was too, as he had been struggling ever since he left Childress. Anyone remember why he went to a back up though? 12. kevin posted: 05.02.2010 - 9:17 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) Skinner tore a car up in the first practice, then got in the backup, and won the pole. On his first or second lap of final practice, he tore the backup car all to pieces. They had to get another car from the shop sent down so he would have a car to race. On the 3rd car with no practice and starting from the back he finished 18th, not bad. You gotta like Skinner, he makes it exciting! 13. mk17ce99 posted: 06.21.2011 - 10:48 pm Rate this comment: (0) (2) Harvick is a tool. During the Busch race the previous night he defended his teammate johnny sauter for wrecking Kenseth when kenseth drove him clean yet pulls this stunt after Ricky Rudd popped him. Harvick may have some great wins under his belt but he'll always be known as a classless clown. 14. It kind of took a lot out of the racing and most were basically racing for second or just racing to look for Kenseth to make a mistake. Anyhow Ricky Rudd and Kevin Harvick provided the entertainment for the night as they confronted each other on pit road. Ricky doesn't take much off anyone so it was pretty logical he'd stick to his guns and go after Harvick. But Harvick has matured since then, even though he still gets in scrapes but the only way he can win a title is to limit those scuffles. 16. It should be "#41 accident frontstretch" 18. That's right, 411! While Jimmie didn't win the title that year, this has to be a record for the most points gained on the leader in that final stretch! 23. Bad Booking posted: 01.09.2016 - 10:33 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Correction: 7th Caution from 145-148 should be for #41 wrecking on the frontstretch instead of the 17,38. 24. joey2448 posted: 01.10.2016 - 6:20 am Rate this comment: (1) (0) "If you see the points from this race, then go to Homestead, you'll see something startling: Jimmie Johnson, before he became the dynasty, gained 411 points on Matt Kenseth in the final 10 races of the year. It's definitely impressive, but also note that Kenseth finished last (43rd) at Homestead after blowing his engine early, while Jimmie finished third, which was a gain of 136 points in one race. Plus, Kenseth had two bad races in a row in October at Talladega (engine) and Kansas (crash). 25. Ryan posted: 04.19.2016 - 4:40 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Not to knock Jimmie at all, because his last 10 races were definitely impressive, but Kenseth had also all but backed off the gas by the time it got to the fall. Combine that with a string of DNFs and it made it look closer than it actually was. 26. 48johnsonfan posted: 03.17.2018 - 5:52 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) This my be a random comment, but was this race the first "short track" to have SAFER Barriers at the time, besides Indianapolis? 27. Interestingly, only fans with Cingular Wireless cell phones could participate. This race's poll question was "In 2004, a 7th Night Race will be added to the schedule. How many night races do you want to see?" A-- More Night Races (74%) B-- Less Night Races (5%) C-- 7 Is Just About Right (21%) 29. He had come from 3 laps down to finish 4th in the spring 2003 race at Richmond. A few other notes: Jeremy Mayfield came on strong at the end of this race after a rather disappointing first 2 years in the #19 car. It would be the precursor to his surprising and dominating win in this race the following year, earning him a spot in the first Chase for the Championship. Dale Earnhardt Jr. was contending for the lead when his team opted not to pit during the 11th caution, even though he was concerned that he may have run over the debris that brought out that caution. He ended up having to pit under green because of a flat tire, dropping him 1 lap down at the finish. Tony Raines had a surprisingly fast car, driving up into the top 10 early on before having to go behind the wall for repairs to his fuel pump. His car was fast enough to legitimately contend for a top 10 or maybe even a top 5 finish. This is one of just 2 races in NASCAR history that featured a car sponsored by Virginia-based Dollar Tree, as they sponsored Virginia native Hermie Sadler in this race and 2 weeks later at Dover. 31. Then, your team busts their butt getting the backup ready and you grab the pole! Then, you wreck in Happy Hour and you're now waiting for another car to come from the shop in Charlotte before the start of the race. Mike Skinner still managed to pull off a 16th place finish l. Impressive considering Skinner was just a substitute driver for the injured Jerry Nadeau at the point 32. Foote posted: 11.26.2020 - 9:46 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) I can't wrap my head around wrecking your primary, then your team busts their butt and gives you a great backup car and you grab the pole, then all you have to do in happy hour is not wreck your pole winning car.
