Picks up one spot before the finish. If that hadn't happened, he would have either won or given Sadler a good run for his money. 3. Instead of having 0 wins as a rookie, Kahne should have had 3-4. While his career is a bit disappointing as it is, it'd be much more so if he had as many wins in his rookie year as he could have had. 20. JSPorts posted: 03.31.2020 - 6:25 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) In his rookie year, Kahne probably should've won Texas and Lowe's 2. Those are the races he dominated. Kahne had a rather strange career. He had 13 top 5s his rookie year, which he never surpassed again. He only beat his total of 14 top 10s in 2006, 2011 and 2012. He only beat his total of 4 poles in 2006. And his 692 laps led were the 2nd-most for him in a season even, behind only 2006. He probably should've had 2-3 wins that first year, as well. But based on his career laps-led total, that would translate to 16-17 wins for the average driver, so Kahne actually out-won that total. I think it would be fair to say a lot of people thought he'd have a lot more success than he did when he first started out. 21. rm posted: 04.04.2020 - 12:57 am Rate this comment: (1) (0) From the broadcast ticker: 09 crew chief - Jon Wolfe 23 crew chief - Philippe Lopez 98 crew chief - Chris Edwards I had to see it for myself, since I didn't remember it happening, but it is true: Derrike Cope had driven up into the top 10 before a disastrous green flag pit stop sequence. Cope had a quick car but hadn't qualified well, and crew chief Mike Hillman took advantage of the early caution for Casey Mears & Jeff Gordon's skirmish and made the call for 2 tires. Cope restarted in the top 15 and was sitting in 10th when the next round of pit stops began. The broadcast booth's jinx was in full effect - moments after talking about the surprising speed Cope had, he stalled the car on pit road when making his stop. The pit crew had to push-start Cope, and after pushing the car several stalls Cope finally got it going. There was no time to rest, though: the crew found themselves standing just in front of Kurt Busch's pit stall, with Kurt Busch closing in. The crew scattered and escaped just fine, but Cope was back in the next lap to serve a speeding penalty. Cope had gone from the top ten to multiple laps down just like that, never coming close to getting back on the lead lap before retiring with a driveshaft issue cited as the reason. Bobby Labonte, ironically, lost multiple laps when he had to take his Interstate Batteries-sponsored ride to pit road to change his dying battery. Somehow, not a single joke was cracked at all when TV focused on his car being down on power and then the subsequent pit stop. Another chapter in the career of Ryan Newman being an unwitting crash dummy was written here. Newman had a tire blow and he was sent hard into the turns 3/4 wall. When interviewed by Dick Berggren afterwards, Newman remarked that he sure wished that there had been some SAFER barriers up where he had crashed. 22. Mile501 posted: 10.13.2020 - 1:26 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) Jeff Gordon had a great quote on the radio during this race when Derrike Cope was all over his bumper: "Is that yellow car for position?" See comment 21 above for a detailed explanation of Cope's race. He was having an amazingly impressive top 10 run early on. 24. Dr. Dick Berggren, Steve Byrnes, Matt Yocum and Jeanne Zelasko were the pit road reporters. Chris Myers and Jeff Hammond were in the Hollywood hotel. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
